First few comedies I ever saw were the Naked Gun movies... That's a damn shame...

Leslie Nielsen. What can be said. His death and Sparky Andersons death have really hit me more than any other celebrity death on here or anywhere. They're my heroes!

Leslie Nielsen was a class act. Always seemed very humble and happy to do whatever he could for his fans. I wrote him several years ago and received a warm response, including an autographed picture he signed with saying "Luck and Laughs"
The guy did so many great comedies, especially the Naked Gun Trilogy (which I can say without a doubt, the most consistent trilogy ever made, they were all equally hilarious in my book).
Very sad day indeed, the man was definitely in a small pool of celebs that never let their egos get ahead of them. Thanks, Mr. Nielsen...for all the laughs you've provided, you will be missed.

He was such a talented actor. Everyone remembers him in all of the slapstick comedy roles, and rightly so, but he also played his serious roles well. There is a bonus feature on the Ben Hur DVD that shows him reading for the part of Messala. Having seen him in comedies first, it definitely would have been odd to watch if he had actually gotten the part.
I'm surely going to go watch Airplane now...and don't call me Shirley!

A lot of people hate Wrongfully Accused, but I don't get why. I first watched it when I was 10 and even though I didn't get most of the material, I thought it was one of the funniest movies ever. I even liked Spy Hard at around the same time and now I'm afraid to rewatch them both to find out if they're still as funny as I remember.

A lot of the movies he was in, especially towards the end of his career after Naked Gun 33 1/3rd, were critically hammered and were really bad films. I'm talking about Mr. Magoo, Spy Hard, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It, particularly.
BUT, they were funny and enjoyable if you looked as them as throwaway comedies.

I just came across this, and ran onto the forums to inform everyone else...only to find I had somehow already been beaten to the punch by quite some time.
Ugh, this one is really sad. I loved that guy. He didn't always pick the best roles, but he was always funny in them.

I probably did because I was young and uncritical of the conventions of slapstick at the time. Even today I appreciate how he kept a completely straight face the entire time, even if the rest of the film wasn't very good.

As soon as I read this in the news, I immediately went to the forums. I think I've been conditioned to find this thread every time theres a noteworthy death.
Leslie was one of my favorite actors of all time. I always had the dream to see him in public and yell out "Its Enrico Pollazzo!" He'll be missed.

Okay enough talk about Irvin Kershner. We should be focusing on Leslie Nielsen, not some guy who's tangentially related to Star Wars.

Don Meredith, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback who served as a folksy foil for Howard Cosell on ABC’s “Monday Night Football” and helped carve out the niche for colorful ex-athlete broadcasters, has died. “Dandy Don,” as he was known, was 72.
