You should have a few pictures of the episode from Ed, Edd, and Eddy where Rolf beats the shit out Eddy for some reason involving family honor. He doesn't die, but it's like watching him die all the same.

there was an episode where Powdered Toast Man killed a kid by accident. It was later banned by Nickelodeon, but not for that reason.

Would that be the one with Waffle Woman?

They were 10 times more adult with the more recent episodes they made for Spike TV.

And man, that second pic is seizure-inducing...

Watch the original version, 90s mindfuckery and childhood nightmare fuel at it's best.

The "adult" Spike TV reboot was a failure, both in that it lacked the subtlety and bizarreness of the original , and in the fact that if only had a paltry 9 episodes, of which 3 or so actually aired before it got yanked.

Call it a failure if you want, I thought those episodes were kickass.

The animation was really really nice, but the cranking of the gross / gay / sexual innuendo just plain out sex stuff dial to 11 ruined it for me.

Plus where were the hilarious commercials, like log?

Ren and Stimpy was AWESOME!! If I remember right, it debuted in it's uncut glory on MTV's Liquid Television before being edited, dumbed down and played on Nickelodeon. For those who don't know Liquid Television, it was pretty much Adult Swim for MTV back in the 90's. Aeon Flux got it's start there aswell as tons of other bizarre cartoon shows by independent animators.

Yeah, the Spike TV episodes are fucking terrible for exactly this reason. Like I never thought of Ren and Stimpy as gay, just as a cartoon buddy team who care about each other; gay situations between them were exaggerated like everything on the show was for comedic value and for mocking the genres they imitated.

One of the signature Spumco things I always hated was how they'd show a super gross closeup of someone with eye crusties and boogers hanging out of his nose. It was gross for the sake of gross and it was unacceptable.

Watching the original cartoon series now, it wasn't THAT great. It was about 50% genius, 25% retarded gross out fratboy humor, and 25% trying too hard to be weird/clever/funny/shocking.

Drawn Together had the same problem.

Yeah, Drawn Together had a weird ratio problem where I would laugh at about 25% of it and then just kind of cringe at everything else.

Anyone noticed that Sponge Bob has continued this tradition?
