I have been trying to sell the following games I have multiples of forever, but they really aren't worth all that much except to someone trying to complete a collection I guess:

Faxanadu - NES
Dragon Warrior - NES
Ironsword - Wizards and Warriors II - NES
Friday the 13th - NES
Doom - 32X
Cosmic Carnage - 32X
Crue Ball - Genesis
Dragons Fury - Genesis
Sunset Riders - Genesis

Good lord, I didn't know Castlevania: Dracula X was going for 80 bucks, I guess my friend gave me a hell of a deal by selling it to me along with Mega Man X for ten bucks.

I'd also like to make a comment on PSX/PC jewel cases, they are hard as fuck to keep in good condition. Hell, I remember getting Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds for PC and the jewel case that came with for the game ended up having one of it's hinges break off the very first time I opened it.

I own Dracula X and it isn't even that good, nor do I consider it super rare, but that is the correct price. Most used gaming stores have it (hence why I don't consider it rare) as well as the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy , but no one is crazy enough to pay that much for either of them. I would just stick with Super Castlevania IV or Bloodlines on Genesis, unless you're a die hard Castlevania fan.

I agree with you on the jewel cases. It's a pain in the ass to find a good PS1 or any current game because most people treat them like shit. Most places like Best Buy don't even sell jewel cases anymore. If you do come across some, they sometimes are too lose or too stiff to fit with the rest of the PS1 container (that is if you're just replacing say the cover). Also, plenty of the jewel cases have minor differences, and unless you're a crazy OCD like me, you're better off just sticking to basics. I've resorted to sometimes buying really crappy common games such as GTA London 1960, and just switching out the jewel cases and then returning it to the store, since they don't even care what condition it's in. Another obstacle I've come across with collecting is getting instruction manuals (especially when plenty of games came with duel manuals), as well as games that have been swapped out with their lesser cool "greatest hits" versions, usually with a basic design on the disc. Plus, the disc itself has been buffed, thus it looks like it's been dragged along the highway at 100 mph. Save yourself the trouble and shell out the $700 for a MIP game. Razz

I think it's a good game on it's own right and that they did their best to preserve the PC-Engine original as much as possible for the SNES, it's not a classic like IV but it's a worthwhile playthrough.

I'd like to know how much a NES console (wiring and all) would be.

I had a similar deal with a friend, he gave me super mario bros, super mario 3, zelda 1 and 2 all with original boxes and manuals, and also an NES for 20$. I took him up for it as soon as it was offered

http://nintendoage.com

Insert dumb quote here. Go ahead, I know you're gonna do it.

According to that site, the N64 Gameshark I've kept lodged in my junk drawer for the past thirteen years is now worth over fifty bucks.

I still wouldn't sell it. I won't sell ANYTHING. My little brother fucked me back in 2001, took practically all of our old games to Gamestop to trade them in for one goddamn Playstation game. They didn't even give him enough in store credit for the game. I wanted to kill him. Now I'm an adult with an income and I don't really care so much.

Still, I've been slowly rebuilding my collection over the years since. I won't sell a single fucking thing. Never. I will buy more old games off of fools that WILL sell them, though.

Personally, I think the values of NES games(actually, all games for consoles prior to the PSX) nowadays are severely inflated. I see guys on Craigslist trying to sell an NES with just SMB/Duck Hunt and RBI Baseball for eighty fucking dollars. They're delusional.

It is just supply and demand. As the years go on fewer of the systems and carts are still working and prices inevitably will go up. Some games were really hard to find to begin with anyway and even when the system was still being made you could pay 80+ bucks to pick up a used copy of the game. Just wait until the 360 gets that old, there will only still be around 100 that haven't RRoD'ed lol.

I fear new consoles. I've heard so many horror stories that I worry about my money going down the drain. I'm used to bulletproof hardware(at least as far as consoles go,) the newest console I own is a ps2, which itself has given me a DRE three times over the years requiring various repairs. Bullshit, I say. It has seen no abuse, it should not break three fucking times.

As long as there are moving parts, there is inevitable failure. No matter how well you take care of it.

Cartridge system hardly ever died, and when they did it was usually just the pin connectors. The one part in the entire machine that moves against something else. (The slots of the cartridges)

Perhaps as SSD technologies advances, we will leave the age of spinning media requiring motors and lenses, and go back to the longer lasting, and more durable cartridge system.

Hopefully the SSD stuff starts to take off, but I imagine Sony won't step away from its Blu-Ray format so easily. I'm sure it is cheaper to make a disc than a cart too so that might be a factor in how soon we see Solid State on consoles. From when I last checked though Solid State Drives were still low capacity compared to regular spinning hard disks so it might be two generations before we even see a console use it.

Well, look at how quickly Nintendo is kicking up size in their DS family's carts:

DS = solid state mask ROM, max capacity = 512MB (4 gigabits)
DSi = same as above + SD card slot (Which is now up to 32GB in max capacity)
3DS = the cartridges are reported as being lock at 2GB at launch, but may grow through the system's life.

So, I see no reason why in the next 2 years, (When we may start hearing about the nex-gen consoles,) carts to be cheap enough to make and hold at least the same (50GB) as a Blu-Ray disc.

I was thinking the same thing. I felt that with the introduction of the 50GB Blu-Ray that SD Cards and Cartridge Technology would have plenty of time to catch up. I think that with 32GB a possibility already, it won't be hard to pass 50GB in a matter of years. These things are getting smaller, bigger in capacity and faster to process every day, while Blu-Ray will be the standard for many years.

When I was a kid, for my birthday one year my parents were gonna get me a really cool bike. Mongoose or some shit that was tits then, can't remember. What I DO remember is that I threw a temper tantrum to get what I THOUGHT I really wanted, that one present that would make my life complete. The one present that a stupid fucking kid gets brainwashed by commercials to desire. I turned down something useful like a bike for one stupid video game.

That game? Pokemon Snap.

Four hours later, Pokemon Snap was beaten, and I had the distinct sensation of fucking my own birthday over.

Yeah if I remember correctly both Redline and Mongoose were the shit back then. I ended up getting a Royce Union, which was just like a BMX, except it was made of like pig iron and was way too heavy to jump. I stripped the stickers off it and it looked like a Redline though. Confused

Well, that's odd. I have a PS2 that's been beat to shit and still works great.

The sure sign of shitty quality control in the manufacturing process. Not that you have a great one, but that so many have had bad ones while decent ones still exist.

If it was majorly a design problem, I would think that the majority of consoles would show a defect. Something being hit or miss shows that the inevitable bad apples aren't being picked out of the bunch. That's a cost-cutting decision by management, to tone down the QC.

You see this problem with tool manufacturers, too. Almost every tool company has their stuff manufactured in China or Taiwan, so what makes the difference between a Harbor Freight angle grinder and a Makita? Quality Control. Different standards, lower in the case of Harbor Freight because they have to meet a lower price point.

In summation: fuck Sony.

In my experience I have seen just as many PS2's come in for repair as I did X-box's GameCubes seemed to be the most reliable. When the slim PS2's came out we rarely saw any come in for repair. Typically a physical cleaning of the lens took care of the DRE's. Xbox's were also an extreme pain in the ass to get to the lens, but that was only the issue for about 50% of them.

The big PS2's attracted dust like a champ which really made it a hard unit to keep clean. That and if you ever opened up a big PS2 would see all the moving parts in there, all it takes is a slight movement of the parts for it to stop working properly.
