They do not "own" the word "Face". It just means nobody else can create a "telecommunications service" and call it "Face".

This is not a big fucking deal. Trademarks are not a big fucking deal. Stop making them seem like one.

In this case I think it is bullshit because I think any company that wants to include the world FACE in their name should be allowed to. It is a common word and if you do a business search for companies with the name FACE in them it is a large return. Given the way that the web works could Face.com keep its name? If they can't then ICANN can't secure the domain against Facebooks desire to take it.

This is not what trademarks or are for. This is a big company bullying the crap out of the public and the system.

It doesn't apply to "any" company. It's applying to telecommunications services, internet social networking sites and the like. If Davey Douche Nugget creates a website where people can meet and talk and wants to call it FaceDouche, then he deserves to get sued.

Pretty much this, yes. In other words, companies trying to piggyback off of Facebook by using the term "Face" to try and create confusion with their product.

It does not give them cause to go after the Albert Face Window company, Facenuggets BBQ, or even FaceDouche Personal Body spray. Just companies trying to rip them off.

Look, like MySpace, Facebook will eventually be beaten by some new kid on the block of social sites. This should happen within all our lives. GPF, like others have said, it's not like we'll have to pay $50.00 to use the word 'face'.
