Apparently Gates is trying to compete with Valve and their deals on steam. They are selling Age of Empires 3 for 10 pence/cents or 10 microsoft points. I'm not sure what that is in dollars but it's definitely a steal.

Also excuse the c in the title i don't have a cents key.

Feel free to copy and paste this guy if you care to:
Code:
¢

For example, it has not survived the changeover from typewriters to computer keyboards (replaced by the ^ symbol), which still do provide the dollar symbol where it always has been. On Windows-based computers, Alt+0162 will create the cent sign; on Unix systems with a compose key, Compose+|+C is a typical sequence.

I tested and verified that holding alt and typing 0162 does create the ¢ symbol.

Oh, and I bought the game. I didn't download it though... still for 10¢, how could I pass it up?

So, I am downloading the game through Games for Windows Live. A year ago when I bought Batman: Arkham Asylum I had to install and sign up for it. It is a very immature distribution platform. Many of the friendly niceties that are offered by STEAM are not present.

For starters, the client has no prices upfront, you must click into a game to see its price. There is no link to a forum or game rating service such as Metacritic. When you start to download the game you see the amount you have downloaded and the amount remaining. No speed rating or bandwidth meter. The default setting is to install games into the default directory at the root of "C:\Program Files (x86)" While this may sound great, downloadable games that are associated with an online distribution system really need to be easily marked as such. Steam games are within the Steam folder structure "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common". There are no easy ways to modify one's gamer account. You can add money or adjust cards, but direct websites must be accessed to do real changes.

http://live.xbox.com/en-US/GameCenter

(I am running a 64 bit OS, so if you have a 32 bit os, the directories would be just "program files" not with the x86 part)

Comcast Note: During my fiddling I figured out that Comcast has a bandwidth meter now... this is new and it measures the total bandwidth a person uses each month on an account. If you are a Comcast subscriber and are interested to know more, here are the details:

Is this for Xbox or PC too? When I go to create a Games For Windows account, it takes me to Xbox Live sign up.

If you have an XBOX Live account you should sign in using that first.

If not, you should first create a LIVE login.

As far as I understand, the LIVE login is the underlying account that drives all other Microsoft logins. This includes XBOX. You can tie multiple accounts together, though it isn't clear how to do so.

Looks like the sale has finished. By the time I created an account and went to checkout, it jumped back up to $39.99 - kind of a bullshit price for a 5 year old game.

I don't think that Microsoft understands what the phrase "Daily Deal" means.

"We hope you enjoyed our latest daily deal. Please check back soon for another blowout deal on one of our top PC titles!"
http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/dailydeal/

Shouldn't it be every day there is a new deal and when one day ends, another begins?
