Why in the US do we present our date as: MM/DD/YYYY?

Wouldn't it make more sense to present it as YYYY/MM/DD; especially since we use computers all the time now and sorting would be so much easier.

ISO 8601 seems to think so.

It makes more sense, so I'm going to stick with it...

I haven't quite made it to the metric system... but it is looking appealing too.

I like to use DD/MM/YYYY just because.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

While it makes more sense than MM/DD/YYYY it still isn't easily sortable.

I use the YYYY-MM-DD system for all my file-naming. Makes life a lot easier when I have a zillion iterations of audio/video files over the course of a project.

DD/MM/YYYY makes the most sense, going from smallest increment to greatest, and that's what most countries use.

But this is America, so fuck what other countries do. On a related note, I will NEVER use the Metric System. I will kill toddlers with a bicycle chain before I ever use the Metric System.

When reading aloud MM/DD/YYYY makes the most sense. "November Seventeenth Two Thousand and Ten."

When reading a single date DD/MM/YYYY makes the most sense because we think about the date in relationship to the current date.

However, when archiving or listing a date, YYYY/MM/DD allows for sorting to be done by most general units first and then more specific.

The metric system is awesome. I don't know it, so it is hard to use, but it is all about 10. How fucking awesome would it be if everything was just about 10. Very awesome. People might actually be able to understand the relationship between measurements instead of approximating everything.

It's so awesome, even England uses it, despite being a European country.

Isnt it the "Imperial" system?

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

The Imperial System wasn't introduced in Britain until 1824, by which time the US was separate from Britain. The two systems share a lot of names for things, but some of the measurements are different. That's why you see "1 US Gallon" on jugs sometimes: to differentiate between the US and Imperial gallons. The system Britain used before 1824, the one they used after, and the one America uses now are all real closely related, though.

If I hear a temperature in Fahrenheit now, I have a vague idea of what that would feel like. All from spending so much time with you guys, woo! And the other day Aika taught me what a yard is. I'm so proud.

How are you supposed to do math stuff with the English system? Like stoechiometry? Do you have to convert molar mass into lbs/mol or shit like that?
