My car radio speakers seem to be shitting the bed, but I find it odd how they are dying and I am going to assume the problem isn't the actual speakers. So, I'd say over the course of the past year, my car radio has been fucked up. It started with just one speaker not working, then it was two not working, and currently I have one working speaker. Now the odd part is, that once in a while, the most recent broken speaker would come back to life briefly from time to time, but then stop working again and eventually never come back. Also, the radio itself seems to get really hot when I am playing a CD. So if anyone has any ideas on what may be wrong, or any troubleshoot tips (yes i checked the fuses), let me know. Thanks

Do you crank your tunes really loud? You may have blown a speaker.

If you want a cheapo sound system without spending money on a car rattling asshole woofer I suggest wiring one of these up in it's place. You get decent sound, but without that vibrating the bolts loose from your car and the teeth loose from your head nonsense.

You could have a short in your wire or it could just simply be loose. If the speakers are easy to get to, typically the subs in the back are, I would check the wiring. Turn the car on and bend pull move the wires to the "dead" speaker. If you really want to see if the speaker is dead see if you have speakers in your house that you can swap your car speakers into. If they work then it's almost definitely your wiring. Only downside you will have to remove said speaker from your car.

My old surround system had wired detachable speakers and I saved it just for this purpose.

The thing is, 3 of 4 speakers do not work not just one, I can't imagine they all just blew. Do you think it could be the head unit? I'll see how entailed it would be to expose one speaker and do a test.

I will almost guarantee it's the wiring. Only other thing I can think of is if you have a premium system and your speakers are hooked to an amplifier and the amp is grounding out or something. Usually when speakers blow they will sound like shit for a while before they stop working all together.

Well, its a stock system, but it is pretty good for stock. It does have a sub (also working), so I imagine there is an amp also. There was no shitty sound period, they would just stop working.

10 bucks says it's the wiring. I had the exact same problem to the point where only the driver's side speaker works. It would cost me too much to have the doors popped off for someone to actually take a look at the wiring. I 'll just ride it out which isn't that difficult since my wife is the one that primarily uses it.

No, I don't think I will fuck Stummies.
