So in this recent video preview, the game is starting to look great. I definitely want to pick this up. It's good to hear that it's actually difficult, the wave level also looks very sick.

That looked pretty good, although the loud sqeee that emerged from my girlfriend once she saw it guarantees this will be in our Wii as soon as it comes out.

Pumped as fuck for it. Here is another exclusive trailer.

The action looks great, Retro seems to really know what they are doing here. Also, the music sounds great so far.

It looks nice...but at the same time...it isn't as visually inviting as the Country games. There was a charm to them at the time, that isn't as matched here. Also, the jumps look just a tad off to me. Again, not trying to deny it before I try it, but I'm going by what I see so far. I would love nothing more than for this to succeed though.

Also the screen shot to the first video looks like he's stomping that bird you ride in SMG2.

Visually inviting? The only DKC game that looked really good (imo) was the first one, number two and three look like shit, I'll mention those dark box warehouse levels with the elephant, those grimy sewer tube levels with the bees, the mucky muck swamp levels, the washed out colors and grainy animation on the Kongs and enemies.

You're kidding right? I could easily name a ton of awesome looking levels such as Bramble Blast, the Volcano levels and the third game had the most beautiful underwater levels. I will also say the games had very unique areas not seen in games before such as beehives or up a giant tree getting sawed up. While the first game mostly followed the traditional sort of feel that Mario games had (ie. the themes of each world were always the same in Mario), the later games expanded on it. I guess I can't speak for this game too much because we've only seen a handful of levels, but I will be damned to believe that any of the DKC games looked or sounded like shit. I'll even go so far as to say I prefer the DKC trilogy to the SMB trilogy.

I really gotta agree with Dodds, this game just lacks the ambiance of the SNES games. It's kinda cartoony. Not that this game doesn't look like it's worth playing, it just doesn't look like it captures the atmosphere of the older games. You can definately tell it's not Rare.

I still think it looks pretty good.

It has a unique charm of it's own, I honestly don't miss the Kremlings that much. It also takes facets of the classic gameplay and refines them, the barrel action looks great.

The levels in DKC2 were beautiful. I remember being amazed by the beehive levels when I first got to them. Also the fireworks in the background of the RollerCoaster stages were pretty cool.

DKC looks great at it's native res or on a CRT. Play it fullscreen on a flatscreen or a computer, and it looks dated and crappy. Old 3D, even faux 3D, does not stand the test of time.

Maybe the fullscreen computer issue Syd mentioned is where I'm getting the ugly vibe from, still I swear 2 and 3 were not as pretty as 1. Confused

Something about 3 I found so boring I could hardly play it. 2 was the pinnacle of the series IMO.

What pissed me off about the DKC trilogy was that Donky Kong was only playable in the first one. When DKC3 came out, I was like "What the hell? DK is kidnapped again?"

DKC3 wasn't that great. Nice music and look, and the way of getting around was fun, but the levels themselves just seemed like...

Well, the best way I can describe them is 'meh'.

THIS GAME IS SO GOOD. Very Happy

Bought it this weekend and had a blast playing it all the way through, sans all the collectibles. Looking forward to getting all the KONG letters and puzzle pieces eventually.

The character designs are all adorable, particularly the checkpoint pig, who is my favorite character in the whole game. And the Tikis are a wonderful replacement for the Kremlings; they make great baddies.

Either get it now, or put it on your holiday wishlist.

I bought it Friday. It's pretty good, gets beter the further you go. It beats the hell out of New Super Mario Bros. However, the physics are a little different. It's got a bit of that floatyness NSMB had in abundance. If I had to give it a bullshit IGN rating, I'd give it a 7.9 out of 10.

I think this game is pretty fantastic. A whole lot of fun with a buddy, the co-op is great.

I would give it at least an 8.5 out of 10. I wish the music were more memorable. It sounds nice and fits the jungle mood, but it is just /too/ ambient for DKC.

I had a really cool idea. They should make a new Zelda game that's like Zelda II in this style. I think that would be amazing.

dude, wrong thread.

i agree that DKCR lacks in Style.
It really is faceless compared to the older games.
Overall it just seems so... seen.
It's just like Snoop Dogg says in that Song "You can't do your thing, without using mine."
DKC had his own unique style and DKCR took his style from the predecessors.
Some much for the bitching...

This. The third game had that shitty elephant character. That stupid character ran backwards every time you hit something. It also made a part of the game impossible for me, which is why I never play it.
