http://www.thirdage.com/news/rachael-leigh-cook-calls-airbrushing-crime_10-24-2010
My take on the matter? Rachel Leigh Cook is a stupid bitch for making a statement like that. You know what a crime is? A crime would be smacking her in the face with a frying pan like she did in her anti-drug commercial, only this time it wouldn't be representing what drugs do to you, but how much of an asshole she is and a testament to her utter lack of social fucking relevance. What the fuck, is Freddy Prinze Jr. next? Michelle Trachtenberg? James Van Der Beek?

Wow, disproportionate rage much?
Seriously, though, the only thing I think is wrong with airbrushing is the unreal standard it sets. No human is as flawless as that, and people DIE trying to obtain a perfection that doesn't exist.
Fucking hell, I think there's something wrong with people's views of themselves when they're perfectly willing to inject one of the world's most deadly toxic bacteria into their faces to eliminate wrinkles.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

Someone please airbrush RLC a set of tits and an ass. Then perhaps I might care about anything she has to say. But probably not.

I agree with her really. There are a lot of stupid women out there who read Cosmo, Marie Claire, and other nonsense rags and take it as gospel, forming their entire self esteem around the pictures of perfect women they see in those magazines without realizing those pictures have been altered.
I don't know why people are so afraid of looking at normal women who haven't been airbrushed or photoshopped. If the media portrayed normal women instead of an impossible flawlessness of humanity there'd be a lot less make-up, plastic surgery, and eating diorders.

Uh the article said "a crime" i.e. it's not really a crime. I wouldn't get too worked up about it.
What i think has pretty much been said. The perfect female creates an unrealistic role model for girls/women.
It's definitely harmful, especially related to health. Size 0 is a bit different to this but look at the effect it has had on people.

It would sure as shit save men a lot of money and grief.
I don't know a single woman that is comfortable enough with her looks to say that she is pretty without qualifying it with "except for my __________". Most buy a ton of makeup and mentally abuse themselves just to walk out the door.
So while Rachel Leigh Cook may not be popular enough to be worthy of making bold statements that people would care about, perhaps the underlying message isn't so far off from truth.
No, it isn't a crime, but it is pretty damn sad.

One of my original life plans was to go on the Price is Right with an airbrushed shirt of Rod Roddy. So much for that.

I understand that she was speaking to girl scouts, and it is important that they feel comfortable as who they are, but it's pretty much too late for anything to ever change. As long as there is photoshop, magazines are going to airbrush/manipulate photos. Hell, I have people asking me all the time, not even just girls, if I can touch up their photos. Take out some wrinkles, blend out blemishes thin out their face and necks. It sucks, but eventually most people (outside hollywood) will figure out there are more important things in life than a "perfedt" appearance.

I'm not above touching up my own photos. I'd even airbrush myself if I had the opportunity.

Removing a blemish? No big deal. Removing hips, lifting boobs, trimming waists by 30%. That is what is being talked about.

I think what we need is a catalogue of opposing levels, i.e. a man you would call under a "5" married to a woman over a "6" and vice versa.
I'm sure she didn't mean "crime" on the same level as the most serious offenses, but as a way of saying "It's morally fuggered" I'd agree. Presenting women who are ultimately very attractive in real life as (literally) impossibly hot in print is irresponsible and contributes to a lot of mental/emotional troubles in normal women.

You know, I'm probably in the minority on this one, but if anyone had some sort of credibility to lend to the subject, it'd be her. She's been on magazine covers and presumably airbrushed and all that, so I won't fault that opinion, whether I agree or not.
What I have problems with is politically active celebs who seem to only get their politics from...well, I don't know, but they sure as shit aren't above using their stature to tell us what to think politically, and this is an area I feel celebs DON'T have any credibility in, yet people sure as hell keep asking them.

People want beauty, especially unattainable beauty. That's why they have hordes of hairstylists, makeup artists, photoeditors and all the other shapers of reality out in Hollywood. If those fucking people looked like we normal folk, most people wouldn't give two shits about them and their already declining circulations. I can see some random broad, even really hot ones, walking down the street, but that doesn't make a magazine cover. I'm not saying I'm for it, per se, I'm just saying it is what it is and all the kvetching by D-list celebrities isn't going to change shit. I think that I was so mad about the article in the first place because I'd just come off watching Josie and the Pussycats as a punishment for making my wife get off of L4D on Live early. That was what came on the TV when she shut the console off.

I personally hate airbrushing and photoshop corrections in magazines and ads. I prefer real women, not plasticised ones created on a photography touch up PC. Just like the same reason I dislike wonder bras, push up bras, water bras, etc.
I want the real woman. I don't care if she has a blemish. I don't care if she doesn't have a 36C chest, I don't care if she is 10 pounds overweight. I don't care if her teeth don't blind me with their whiteness. I just want a real woman. By continuing to make these "plastic" women in print ads, it is creating a idealized view of the perfect woman in peoples minds, and guess what. They don't really exist the way you see them in photos. So, if this trend continues, eventually children who grow up will all have unrealistic and unhealthy expectations of what a woman should look like.
The boys will think all girls they meet ugly, because they don't have perfect skin and perfect figures, and the girls will be malnourished and sick trying to figure out why they can't make their bodies look like the models in the magazines.

Am I the only one curious as to why aeonic is on a website that uses the tagline, "For the woman who wasn't born yesterday, and makes the most of today"?
