Hold up hold up hold up. Imna let youse finish, but in what world can you walk into a place and ask to see the name of a classified government informant?

I sincerely hope you're wrong about that. ...Or maybe the reason the wars have been so difficult for us is more obvious than I thought...

Feh, I had Secret clearance when I worked for TSA (and since it supposedly lasts for 10 years, I think I still have it). I never got anything that was actually classified though, just "sensitive security information".

Yeah, I had to get one too to get into officer's training. Secret really doesn't mean much; the good stuff happens at Top Secret.

I was just curious about Atma because--unless they have a specific MI job--the majority of Enlisted guys don't need one (in my experience.) I would think that means he's either part of the Intel community, a higher-ranking NCO, or an officer. Curious which one.
My step dad works at NORAD, he's just a sarge, but he has a top secret.

I bet your step dad's top secret is that he doesn't like you.
Very Happy this made me laugh. hard.

I'm an E-6 SH, I currently have a TS but that's just due to my Rate (You Army folks call that an MOS) and some of my Collateral Duties. I'm an Operations Specialist, and deal with Part Intel, Part Operations, Part Communications.

Everyone on board a Navy Ship requires at least Confidential Clearance. When the ship is currently underway, its position is Classified.

My Job Description as based from About.com

Operation Specialists (OS) function as plotters, radio-telephone and Command and Control sound-powered telephone talkers and maintain Combat Information Center (CIC) displays of strategic and tactical information. They operate surveillance and altitude radars Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), and associated equipment. They also serve as Air Traffic Controllers for helicopters and fixed-wing supersonic jet aircraft. OS Sailors serve as watch supervisors and section leaders; interpret and evaluate presentations and tactical situations and make recommendations to supervisors during watch conditions. They apply a thorough knowledge of doctrine and procedures applicable to CIC operations contained in U. S. Navy Instructions and Allied or U.S. Navy Publications and procedures necessary for radar navigation contained in Naval Oceanographic Office publications. OSs provide to the command technical information and assistance related to Anti-Surface Warfare, Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Amphibious Warfare, Mine Warfare, Naval Gunfire Support, and search and rescue operations, and other matters pertaining to the Operations Specialist's area.

The duties performed by Operations Specialists include:

* plot a ship's position, heading, and speed;
* operate common marine electronic navigation instruments including radar systems;
* provide target plotting data to the combat information center based on information received from target tracking devices.

Good stuff, Atma. And I'm glad you clarified you're an E-6; I noticed the high speed new sig, but I never could figure out those Navy ranks. Confused
