Apologies are meaningless. Is anyone going to jail for this?
I wish we had a monarchy. A good king would infect every still-living person who was involved with this with syphilis.

That's ludicrous. That shit happened sixty years ago. They're not going to put anyone responsible in jail, and nobody's going to give them syphilis, either. Mainly because if they're not all fucking dead (meaning those who did it), they're pretty fucking close.
And yeah, it really is funny that for the US especially, sympathy can be found between shit and syphilis in the dictionary. Seems oddly apropos.

Who here likes the pyramids? Oh, I know... EVERYONE. Well, the pyramids weren't built with gumdrops, sunshine, and love, they were built by whipping unpaid slaves until they collapsed from exhaustion and died.
Is it sad? Yeah. But that's progress for you. You wanna make an omelette? Well, you're gonna have to kill a few people. Sorry.

This is the question that came to my mind. If you're working to make a cure, sure. That makes sense (sort of? It's still messed up). But as far as I read, nothing comes to mind that would suggest that's the kind of research they were carrying out.

The pyramids were not just built using slave labor. Much of the people building the pyramids were skilled laborers and masons who were compensated for the work on the pyramids. As the years passed new innovations came about making it easier.
My point in all this is
A) Slaves and only slaves building the pyramids is a fallacy
B) Unity, and good intentions (at least on the part of the Egyptians at the time) lead to their inception and completion. If only slave labor was used they would have never been finished. Likewise proper and ethical testing of STDs could have led to similar results. If in fact they were looking for a cure which some suggest that wasn't the case as much as observing the symptoms.

Hey, they're still bringing Nazi scientists to trial for conducting similarly horrific experiments at almost the same time. They're deporting guys in their 90's so they can be put on trial. I support that 100%. Screw their age!
Seriously, there needs to be some sort of justice. Otherwise there are some pharmaceutical companies looking at this story and thinking 'Wow, we can secretly inject people with any crazy shit we want and nothing will happen!' Actually, they're probably already doing it but maybe they'd think twice if some justice came out of this syphilis case.
