Well, 11 bucks an hour and decent enough benefits. The hitch is you're working with people with special needs.
And what's bad about fixed hours? Passing off "flexible scheduling" as a benefit is one of the greatest scams of our time. |
I was actually using that as a selling point. I work 4pm to 1am 4 days a week and I like that alot better than the jump around schedule I worked at McDonalds.
If I wanted to be sarcastic, I would have said...
A vigorous workout for 8 hours a day, doing the jobs of people that get paid more than you, get no respect from management who give you impossible time limits, Don't it sound fun?

I write my own schedule, which is sweet. I work mostly the same hours every week, but if I need a certain day off, I can switch things up without having to lose any hours that week or use up my vacation time. It's awesome.
At least, it would be, if our location wasn't closing.
So.... back to the topic of selling out. How do I sell adspace?

I'm gonna throw this out there, but job offers of $10 and under probably aren't worth it, and definitely aren't if there's relocation involved. You don't move across the fucking country to make as much money as a fucking 16 year old. Have some common sense.

I still think the way to go us just for us to turn the site into a legitimate revenue stream. The traffic has been there in the past, and it being a full time job definitely gives more time to generate content. The real question is just "How much should ad space cost?"

A lot of websites I go to that are similar to this but have ads usually have car insurance ads. Since this is a pop culture website the chances of an insurance rant offending the advertisers is pretty slim, just don't go with Esurance.

Like I said before, make sure you have a "menu" of sorts for where you are going to offer ads.
If you want them at the top of articles, to the side, in the middle of content, inbetween page loads. Just make sure you have that information at hand before you start talking to ad reps or they will try to make the decisions for you.

The Google thing requires real click throughs, but from what I have heard, it is very good.
The one company that I hear about other than Google is Adbrite.
