First, this is some independent think tank and the U.S. government is not considering a redesign for our paper currency.

Secondly, this entire idea is retarded. You know what happens when you change an established brand? NEW COKE, that's what.

Yeah but then the government could re-introduce our old money as Dollars Classic and make millions on currency conversions.

I thought they eventually had to redesign them all anyway so the blind can differentiate the different bills.

Also, the 5 with lincoln next to last on the slide show wasnt bad.

I really like the 3rd one on the first page with Washington on (second to last slide after the jump). I think it's a nice change, yet still remains pretty classy and feels American.

Those vertical ones are awful. They look like Andy Warhol's take on American currency, and it's never been America's style to put the current president on a bill so I really don't like that. The rest of the designs look too European for my tastes.

I don't mind the tweaks to the money we have now but this multi-colored money looks stupid. I never in my lifetime want to hear a rap song saying "It's All About The Franklins."

"Anybody who ever built an empire, or changed the world, sat where you are now. And it’s because they sat there that they were able to do it."

"Fighting in a basement offers a lot of difficulties, number one being, you're fighting in a basement."

Isn't it time we got rid of physical money?

When are we going to get bar code tattoos or computer chip implants that keep track of all of our finances? Its 2010 and we're not even close to where the 70's sci-fi movies said we'd be by now.

As for the pictures, I'm with everyone else... I don't like the Euro style bills but the $1 at the bottom looks pretty good.

I like our bills the way they are. I understand multicolor notes are harder to counterfeit, but American money always seemed to have this sort of classy look to it. Those bills look like rainbow vomit.

And you know, I was gonna make a crack about "Oh, God forbid anything ever get a redesign" and then look back at what your site looked like way back when, but you know what? It looks exactly the fucking same!

Not only that but Project Mayhem may cause that idea to just fail.
I could understand the ergonomics of having the vertical dollars, since I spend a lot of time counting money for work, but that's just one person looking at it. I still think it's a horrible idea because the multi-colored hues of the paper money would just make me rage and want to punch someone. It's bad enough I deal with a lot of Canadian money that's multi-colored...

Brazilian money is multi-colored too, but I think the whole point of having multi-colored bills (and coins, too. They are pretty :3 ) is to help the illiterate keep track of how much money they have (it's a load of crap, I mean, if they can memorize colors, they can memorize what a "5" looks like).
Also, multi-colored money may look stupid (I'm pretty sure the Simpsons episode that involved Brazil made fun of it), But you can tell how much money you have on your wallet with more ease.
To sum it up, it's a nice thing to have, but I don't think it justifies printing a gazillion bills all over again. Also, the bills of different sizes would be hell to keep organized

Can we really afford to redesign money right now? I'd think there'd be more important things the government could do while digging the debt ditch deeper.

RIP Hacker.

If it was for the purpose of cutting down/stemming the tide of counterfeiters it'd make sense, otherwise why bother?

If America had coloured money, maybe Syd wouldn't have given that waitress a $50 tip.

Adding different colors would not necessarily circumvent drunken stupidity. Besides, they make the numbers and faces fucking GIGANTIC now.

Shape the bills like the numbers they're worth.

I understand having bills be different sizes to help the blind. That is the only change that our money could possibly need. Our money is classy, and it should stay that way.

As much as I would love to help the blind out, it would fuck over every automated vending machine that accepts money. It would do so much more than a change to the presentation of the bill.

I do agree however that our money is green. It should remain green.

Why are we worrying about this so much anyways? Within 10-15 years the need for cash will continue to drop as electronic payments are more widely accepted. It is in the government's best interest to try and push for fee-less electronic money transfer. They can then automate audits and more readily track the citizens. I'm not saying it isn't scarier, but it is the reality of our very near future.
