What gets me are those stories of an extraordinary child abduction. We hear about them morning, noon, and night on national networks and we're expected to grieve deeply for their loss, even though we don't know them and they haven't contributed anything significant to society or their own communities. Forget the more important news stories. Forget the things that people might need to know about in their city lives. Most importantly, forget the hundreds of thousands of other missing kids reported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Department of Justice every year. Never mind the countless other missing children in the rest of the world, who for all we know could be enduring even worse conditions in their own ordeals. There's a cute little white girl with rich parents who needs the help of everyone in the nation to find her before we look for anyone else! And they have every major news outlet in the country in their employ as well as a bunch of no-name experts arguing over the rush we're in to get her home safely to remind us every waking moment!

Don't get me wrong, there is no scum on the earth like a person who would take and/or harm a child, but I agree wholeheartedly about the retarded way the media handles that kind of story.
