Military bases across the U.S. have banned the sale of a new video game that lets a player pretend to be a Taliban fighter and "shoot" U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
Gamers are scoffing at the decision, saying that advanced technology has made it commonplace in the gaming world to let players switch sides and play the bad guy.
"Medal of Honor" by Electronic Arts, a major game developer based in California, hits stores Oct. 12.
After public protests, including by British Defense Secretary Liam Fox, U.S. military officials decided not to stock the game in any of the nearly 300 base exchange shops.

Typical U.S. Army attitude (No offense to any members of it). It's okay one way, but not the other. I can't understand that it might be touchy because it is set in the current war, but still, it's a game. They throw the word violence around like there's never been a game made like this before.

I agree with the decision. The fact that games are even being made that take place in topical war settings is disgusting. Medal of Honor? More like Medal of Shame.
Anyone remember that FPS several years back where you got to gun down Saddam? What stupid, exploitative trash.
I have to side with Syd on this. If a game came out that had you ruling over a Wal-mart store (seeing just how much you could get around OSHA/fair wages/etc), I doubt it'd be sold at Wal-Mart.

Wasn't there another terrible FPS game which had you hunt down and kill Osama Bin Laden?

This seems about as reasonable as the rules for no alcohol or guns on school property. No one is saying what you can or can't do in your house. It is simply a rule that is believed to favor positive morale.

This. Playing a game where you are a space Marine fighting aliens and shit is one thing. Playing a game where you are a US Marine killing Iraqis is just in bad taste. If you want to experience that thrill that bad join the military, once you get to the war zone you are free to join the other side and have your ass shredded by a 50 cal and a pissed off Sergeant. The bitch of it is, there are no save points.
Also take note, the military has now banned FPS's and Gays, so by default all FPS Games are now gay. That's right Master Chief, you've been outed.

Seriously though, I side with the military. It's not like you can't go get the game in some other way, I imagine. It's probably just gonna be another sub par call of duty type of game anyway. I wish these games wouldn't come out with such ferocious frequency.

FPS games need to go further back in time, rather than mining present day events for inspiration.
I want a Viking FPS where you get to pillage cities and violate the womenfolk. Or the menfolk, if that's your thing. Or the goatfolk.
I want a civil or revolutionary war game that isn't made by the history channel.

A FPS where you are a T-Rex going after Brontosaurus would be awesome.
Yeah, fuck you Apatosaurus, and Pluto is a planet!

Aside from the glitches, the awful AI, the shitty missions, and bad gameplay, it wasn't a bad game.
And I'm not sure if I really agree with this, honestly. I can see where they're coming from.
<docinsano>i beat off using save states
<Tako> But, brontosaurs ate plants. It wouldn't be a threat to Jesus.
Why? Fuck you, that's why.

I want an FPS where rate of fire and reload speed are the same damn thing, where controlling a single cannon is the equivalent of having that perfect sniping position, I want a Civil War game, dammit!

This is pretty stupid because
1: You can only play as the Taliban in multiplayer, where there has to be 2 sides in a team match.
2: Like the CoD: MW series this game is fiction, based on today's wars. It's not like they copied events to the letter like the still-unreleased Six Days in Fallujah.
Released in 2002. Followed in 2003 by Conflict: Desert Storm II - Back To Baghdad
To be fair, the guy had a fictional name, but that doesn't make it any better. Also, the Conflict games were terrible, exploitative shlock
Second, I side with the military. These special stores are visited by both military and military families, so it's really just in bad taste to all parties.
Third, the Battlegrounds was a great mod for HL and HL2 that took place during the American Revolution.
Fourth, different from the first. Jackie is a punk, Judy is a runt.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I agree with the military, What if a soldier came home and saw a video of that, this game is not good for anybody right now
