That doesn't look too bad, but I can see it being annoying in text heavy games.

It looks pretty awful.

You can't really tell with Small Mario, but Super Mario looks all fuzzy and shit too. Basically any sprite that uses too many colors or is small and has lots of curves and points (like say, letter and numbers) look awful.

I have my own computer. It is on the opposite end if my room from the TV. That way, I can actually watch TV while computing. My current computer is 6 years old. I was going to buy a new over Labor Day, but I spent too much money this month.

I'll get you the make and model later. It's the Best Buy house brand. Insignia, I think?

And yes, of course I run it 4:3 mode.

And yes, I do want a hug.

I don't watch much television, so I guess I can see how it might not be the best option for everyone, but it's still helluh sweet. I'm lucky enough to have a TV that does picture in picture as well, so if I really really wanted to I could do both I suppose.

When I had the NES hooked up to the TV I tried to play SMB as well, and the image looked like a blown up jpeg.

The opposite is true as well. There are a few newer games that have issues on older TVs:

Yea, but that's mostly just because the text is pretty much impossible to read on a lot of games designed for HDTVs that are being run in standard definition.

I had this problem with Wii games, believe it or not. The text in Radirgy on the Wii Ultimate Shooting Collection is unreadable on a CRT.

Also, Heavenly Guardian on Wii isn't quite properly scaled for 4:3 and edges of the text boxes in the intro and ending are cut off.

I'm curious as to what one of those old Pong machines or a 2600 would look like on one of them HDTVs.

Those whiners need to get into the 21st century and stop holding the rest of us back.

Any decent TV should automatically upscale the image to the appropriate resolution and display an image that doesn't look terrible.
I'll just go ahead and say it: the problem is the TV. Insignia is terrible.

That video was stupid, there are plenty of not as text heavy games that are built to be seen in high definition.

Yeah, the difference in most games designed for HD still look fine on a regular TV.

Is Soul Calibur 4 prettier on an HDTV? Yeah. Is it necessary to play the game? No.
