My take on the matter? There's one of two things going on here:
1. This guy is an intolerant asshole who just happens to be playing right into the establishment's hands of further fomenting unrest amidst the American public against Muslims so they can justify the Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts and potentially invade Iran.
2. He's on their payroll.
Just my take, and yeah, I'm paranoid. What of it? Thoughts?

He's a pastor and he was instructed by God to do it. What is he supposed to do?

Excellent, its nice to see a religious person realize that God is wrong about a lot of things.

Yea, apparently leaders behind the proposed Park 51 Community Center or the "Ground Zero Mosque" have also agreed to move it's location.

Yeah, but at least when you burn Dianetics you're letting the alien souls free.
Fun Fact! L. Ron Hubbard was involved with Jack Parsons, creator of the first solid state rocket fuel. Also, Parson's wife! And through them, Aliester Crowley, as a member of the Ordo Templi Orientis. It's great to see how many people connect with good ol' Therion on one level or another.

Wasn't Iran (as opposed to Iraq) the place we should have invaded in the first place?

Thank god he called this shit off. It's unfathomable to me that someone could arrive at the conclusion that that was a good idea. I mean, if a bunch of Muslims burned the Bible, he'd be shitting bricks...why oh why oh WHY is it so hard to put yourself in another person's place?

Because a lot of people forget "as you'd have done unto you" is part of the "do unto others" spiel. And as of now, he's saying it's only 'postponed'. To me, that reads "Need to stretch this fifteen minutes out any way me and my 1800's saloonkeep mustache can."

Yeah, he wants evidence within 24 hours (and counting) or he'll burn them. That's homegrown religious terrorism if ever I heard it.

The town refused to grant him a fire permit. So if he burns the Koran, he'll be breaking the law and will be arrested.

I find this a little odd. I see a lot of parallels between this and the NY mosque story... yet people (at least on these forums) have had complete opposite reactions.
Sydlexia forum reaction to NY mosque story: "This is America, people are free do what they want. The 1st Amendment protects all religions. Everyone who is offended is overreacting. Let them build it."
Then this crazy pastor wants to have a protest to the mosque building and everyone's opinion changes...
Sydlexia forum reaction to Koran burning story: "This guy must be stopped. He should be arrested for his religious views. Doesn't he realize it will offend Muslims? Assassinate him."
I find that interesting.
For the record, I think he's an asshole too. But this is America, you're free to be an asshole.

This is seriously outrageous. Remember the "everybody draw mohomad day"?
That was drawings and recieved some serious attention. Let alone burning the Holy words of their God.
If he goes through with this hes throwing some serious sized rocks at a VERY large hornets nest. Hornets who know how to turn SUVs into Bombs.

You are also free to celebrate your religion.Burning a bible is inhibiting those freedoms.
The two aren't even in the same universe. One is a building, a community center in fact, wherein the top two floors have a center for Muslim prayer.
The other is demonstration designed implicitly to ignite a response with one message. That message is you are not welcome and you do not belong.
We haven't changed our opinion we are reinforcing our views that muslims are allowed to pray here.
Him burning a koran is not him embracing his religious views, it's him inciting a riot.
This isn't apples and oranges it's apples and nega-apples. Completely separate.

I'll tell you why this is a whole lotta apples later. My lady wants to go to the beach now.
And apples reminded me of the GI Joe episode where that giant blob thing was impervious to weapons so they had to poison it with apples.

This situation is different.
Going through with this will directly put American lives in harm's way. I agree it's protected by the First Amendment, but totally retarded and irresponsible (and immature).

While I find organized religion across the board to be lol-worthy, this is just an assinine stunt to generate publicity for himself.

I thought about this and I still don't get what this is supposed to accomplish.
"Ha ha! Take that, Muslims, we're burning your sacred text! How does that makes you feel?"
"Uh, we're just gonna bomb you harder." (Yes, I'm aware of the hypocrisy here.)
The same applies to bible burning. For every bible someone burns out of spite to Christianity, there's another bible out there that doesn't get burnt. Even if they succeeded in burning all of them, the pollution it causes will kill everyone on the planet. And then there's the digital copies.
