A new female-cut Army Combat Uniform is in the works, Army Times reported Monday. Jackets will now come in 13 sizes, with different chest, waist and sweep measurements. Trousers will also come in 13 sizes, with different hip measurements, and the drawstring will be replaced by an elastic waistband. The back rise on the trouser will be lengthened to make room for larger hips.
SH, might have some more intimate knowledge/better info on the topic matter. I can't believe that they haven't done something like this sooner.
Not quite pertinent to the discussion at hand but it's interesting to note, just think of how much the army has spent in the past few years on R&D on so many things(this is by no means a complete list) :
H&K XM8 (M16/M4 Replacement) - Cancelled in 2005
H&K 416/417( M16/M4 Replacement, also M14/M25 Replacement) In Limited Usage
416
417
H&K MK23 - In limited usage
H&K M320 (Replacement for M203 Grenade Launcher) - Still being phased in
as compared to the M203
FN SCAR-L/H(pseudo M16/M4 Replacement, also M14/M25 Replacement) - SCAR-L CANCELLED June 2010
SCAR L (Top) H (Bottom)
OICW - shitcanned
Improved M16/M4 Magazines(black follower to green follower to tan follower respectively) - In Use
Transitioning from ALICE gear to MOLLE
The IOTV(Replacement for older Interceptor OTV ) - in use
ACU w/ UCP(Replacement for the BDU and DCU not to mention every other piece of gear: Helmet Covers, Plate Carriers etc.) - in use being replaced with Crye Precision Multicam in Afghanistan, I'd venture to guess it'll eventually replace the UCP altogether.
(From Left to Right- ACU in Universal Camo Pattern, BDU in Woodland, DCU in Desert)
and The ACU in UCP(left) compared to the ACU in Multicam(right):
Also not related, but I think the Marines had the right idea when they developed Their Digi camo (MARPAT), it's superior to the UCP in that instead of trying to make one uniform to work in a range of environments in efforts to save cost by not making two or three different unis for specific environments(which they're already negating by issuing Multicam AND UCP uniforms )It comes in all three flavors, Arctic, Desert, and Woodland. After MARPAT was released everyone wanted in on the Digital Camo utilities, and none are as good as MARPAT, ABU's (Air Force), ACU's in UCP (Army), and that funky Navy Digi Camo.
(From L-R Air Force ABU/ USMC MARPAT - Desert/ USMC MARPAT - Woodland/ Army UCP/ BDU - Woodland/ DCU- Desert/ Navy NWU

...do you have a point to make, or are you just listing a bunch of cool stuff the army has made?
I don't understand how it took until 2010 to make this happen. I guess as a civilian I always just assumed that uniforms that fit people properly were in existence.
Since that is not the case, I am happy to hear that they will be making properly fitting uniforms going forward.

Cool, so when do we get metal gears, cyborg ninjas, infinite ammo headbands, and optic cammo?

I think whoever designed bazookas should have some input...

Yea I never knew the military didn't already do this. I always just assumed they had male and female uniforms. Good for them for (finally) addressing it.

Yea, same. It really is shocking that it took them this long to take care of it. I am sure the military ladies have been bitching about it for a while.
There are a lot of what if's in life Donny. What if I hit you really hard in the face, knocked yo shit to the back of yo skull? What if I....had you girl gargle my nuts? The fact remains, you are a fuckin mutant.
I just really wanted to see hot chicks in catsuits (presumably what the army is going for) or any of those XM8 assault rifles or other gadgets mentioned earlier.

I don't think they have been created yet, I think they are still being designed.

Thanks a bunch!
You know I'm kinda glad we stuck to the M16's rather than replace them with H&K. Nothing wrong with H&K, but the last thing we need to do in this economy is more outsourcing.

Yeah, you'd think they'd have done this a lot sooner, huh? ...Oh well. I'm really looking forward to trying these out and seeing if I notice a big difference. I'm so used to wearing the "standard" (that is, male) stuff; it's gonna feel weird. It'll be nice not to look like a misshapen tent in my uniform though; the material of the ACU looks horrible on women the way its cut. Its just an aesthetic thing mostly (although I'm glad all those fucking fly buttons are going) but we're trained to take care and pride in the way we wear the uniform, and it seems like this might help.
And in other news, while they're R&Ding all that other shit...how about camo that, y'know, WORKS???

That's why I brought up the multicam thing, The goal was to make one camo that works in multiple environments, multicam is leaps and bounds better at that then the UCP is, part of the reason they didn't use it in the first place is they didn't want to pay Crye for it, the other being the stigma that it wasn't developed by the army but rather with the army, for the army, so it was inferior(funnily enough, UCP was rated dead last when compared to the other options in testing, including multicam). The army was actually developing a non digitized camo pattern (that was quite similar to multicam) as a replacement for the BDU/DCU, but when they saw what the Marines did, they wanted in on the action too, but make it unique to the army, what you have now is the lackluster final product, and what a fine gravel camo it is.
It's the same story with those Tan follower Magazines, Magpul(a private company) developed anti tilt followers for AR15/M16 Magazines years ago, but the army didn't want to pay for an out of house product, so they reverse engineered them and voila a "new" and improved piece of gear.
More camouflage pics!!!:
Those top 2 are actually the Navy's other digi camo patterns in Desert and Woodland Respectively, the blue stuff is for...well I think just ships, maybe Atma could set us straight) But that's cool is like the Marines MARPAT, which has the USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor, the Navy Unis have the Eagle Globe and Constitution in the pattern itself
God I love Multicam so much. Almost as much as I hate UCP.
...Although at least we're not the Navy, with their blue cammies. We have that small shred of dignity left at least, even if the only thing we can successfully blend into is a gravel road.

I have it on good authority that the female military uniforms will look like this:
Obligatory anime reference in uniform thread? COMPLETED.
That multicam stuff is amazing. Where do we buy it? I want to make my car Multicam.

You can order multicam stuff from any military-esque supply website. I recommend rangerjoes.com; it's where I get all the odds and ends of equipment I need and I've never had a problem with 'em.
