I've been playing as Charlotte, which is a pain in the ass. I'm levelling her up by absorbing spells, but it takes ages. I am also sad that she doesn't learn her Gale Force spell from PoR.
I played a little bit with Alucard and Shanoa, and they both seem nerfed.
My friend plays as Soma, and aside from getting a head start on me, he seems to be the best character thus far.
Does anybody know what's up with those spotlights in the clock tower?

It's an effin amazing game when you're playing co-op, which is what the game is made for, it branches away from a normal Castlevania game, and that might be why it gets some flak.
Jew: If you cross both spotlights on SPOILERS: Death, it basically does a ton of damage to him and he gets sent back to his actual room and can't leave it anymore and swoop around the stage. I play as all the characters, Soma has the most kills, but my favorite is Charlotte and Jonathan.

I'll just run all the characters down for you.
Alucard is a really good beginners character, I used him first and I really liked him, but when you get later into the game, you don't really want to play as him, because there's a lot better. Now, if you actually get the best, and I mean, effin' best equipment for him he's pretty good, but still not comparable to Soma, Jonathan is debatable.
I personally think Soma was extremely overpowered and not a good choice for the game. He's the only character who gets guns. He gets a pistol, and a motherfuckin' RPG. But if you're really looking to dominate shit, Soma's the guy to do it in terms of a Melee/Ranged/Magic-using hybrid.
Jonathan was one of the two characters that was really shunned at the start when the game came out. Jonathan can be summed up in 2 words. Absolute shit, but as soon as you start leveling up his equipment, which makes his whip do more damage the more levels you get with your equipment. He can be pretty damn close as beastly as Soma with fully leveled all weapons, and you level up your, as they're called in the game, sub-weapons, by killing monsters with them, and you obtain new sub-weapons as random drops. Jonathan also can't equip weapons. His whip is always equipped, but you can equip his sub-weapons.
Charlotte was the other character that was shunned at the start when the game came out. She's like Jonathan, but with spells, she's really shitty too until you level up her spells, and you can learn new spells by absorbing certain attacks from enemies. They level up by absorbing the spell again and again till it hits level 9, and you can't absorb a spell from the same enemy twice. She can be a fuckin devastating spell caster when you fully level up Heal and some of her other spells. Charlotte's melee attack levels up as you level up her spells. She also can't equip weapons, her melee spell book attack is always the one she uses.
Finally, we get to Shanoa, I never really played as Shanoa, she was kinda boring to me, but she's a spellcaster as well. She learns spells by absorbing them in a different sort of way, but similiar to Charlotte's way of getting spells at the same time. She levels them up just like Jonathan, kill shit with the spell your leveling up. I can't really say more, I know she has less spells than Charlotte though.

when I say nerfed, I mean in comparison to the games the characters originated from, BTW. alucard loses alot of his spells and abilities from SOTN, and shanoa doesn't get nearly as many glyphs, and she can't rapid fire the same attack by alternating hands anymore.
I've gotten fireball, summon skeleton, piercing beam, and whatever the water shard thing you get from the mermen is called maxed out, and charlotte has become quite useful, but it's still annoying trying to aquire spells, let alone level them all up to nine. it sucks that you HAVE to to up your other stats.
I think it also sucks that jonithan only gets the shitty martial arts like the knee bash. he should have gotten the ones that up his defense and offense and stuff.

I own it, but haven't played much due to a lack of friends owning the game. Without buddies to play with, it gets boring doing the grinding over and over.

I hate you all. I was looking forward to this game for months, and less than a week from it's release, my 360 broke. I plan on getting it as soon as I get my 360 fixed.
Also...Didn't I already make a thread for this game?

whatever. a mod can merge them if it's a problem. maybe if I make my avatar bigger it will attract their attention or something.
I have a bunch of spells maxed out, and have started hard mode. flame shot has replaced fireball, and i alternate piercing beam with toxic bubbles.
I started playing more with shanoa and alucard, but they just don't seem as awesome.

Started playing as jonithan. Having the subweapons level up the vampire killer was a stupid idea. He should be able to pick up and equip different whips, with the vampire killer being his best weapon to find as a drop. He should also have alot more mp and a higher mp regeneration rate and overall his weapons should consume less. He almost feels like a worthless version of Charlotte right now. At least she could stand in front of enemies and absorb their spells.

Nah, I don't really care. I was just joking.
Quick Question: Does Alucard have his spells from SOTN? How about his familiars? Transformations?

He has nothing.
He can use the mist form for half a second to get some invincibility. They badly frankensprited bat wings onto him when he does his double jump and used the sprites of his wolf form for his sliding animation (you couldn't slide in SOTN, so no sprites exist). He has a few of his old spells available as hunter skills, but they're all nerfed to shit. They also changed his legendary voice actor.
Overall a lazy bones conversion. Shanoa is more faithful, and she only has three weapons and four spells. They easily could have drawn three new sprites for a sliding animation, or at least drawn a sprite or two for transition into wolf form, and the bat wings could have been at least animated. Sometimes when he uses a shield it doesn't even connect to his arm properly. I could do better in my spare time and not get payed for it.
Things are definitely about Charlotte for me at this point. She's the most satisfying experience IMO. Probably Soma as well, but I haven't played as him yet.
BTW, I'm about to play. any X Boxers interested in partying up, my GT is Flyinjew.

I now have a little over half of charlotte's spells maxed out.
I switched from summon skeleton, raging fire, fireball, splash needle to summon skeleton, piercing beam, flame shot, Ice needle.
There are better skills to replace summon skeleton with, and will probably equip heal to that slot once I get it, but I love the novelty of having an army of skeletons throwing bones at a boss. It does a decent amount of damage when spammed, too. First spell that I learned.
Flame shot has made fireball obsolete, as it's just a bigger, stronger, faster version.
I was only using raging fire until I got poisonous bubbles, but now I like piercing beam more because I can move and attack while it's out, it does holy damage (a rarity in this game, it seems), and I can stack multiple beams. This spell totally annihilates bosses.
Splash needle was a great rapid fire spell, but it's really weak. I found myself using fireball and flame shot more because of the raw damage. Ice needle is much slower, but I can have it rotate in front of me like the shields in gradius. I can even stack it to cast on either side while I traverse medusa rooms and stuff. It's also great for clearing groups of enemies if I stack a few and let them fly. This is especially funny in long hallways like level 3 and 4.
I'm trying to build intelligence for spells and luck for drops. I figure I could kill things with my spells before they ever get close enough to be a threat, so I don't worry much about attack, strength, and defense right now. I should probably worry about my mind stat, though, now that I think of it.
Rocking an elven cloak, succubus boots, sun/moonstone, and sage ring. The sage ring makes my mp recover a little faster. Good till I get a chaos ring. I'm also hoping to get that ring that stops me from getting cursed to replace the sun/moonstone. An elfin cloak would be nice as well, but I'm broke.
I never bother with potions, either. High mind ups are my item of choice.
Anyone else playing this want to share their loadouts?
