Fuck it, I'm running this show now. Which is better? Gameboy Color or Dreamcast? This is kind of a hard one actually as both consoles were under rated and over shadowed by what was coming next.

Dreamcast, because GBC barely counts as its own system. It was like Game Boy 1.5.

This, GBC barely counts as a separate entity. Also, Dreamcast is the shit.

True, the GBC wasn't quite a full leap to the next thing, but I remember flipping out when I first saw it. It just seemed so unimaginable that Gameboy would be in color.

I can't vote on this due to too much bias because I've never owned or even played a Dreamcast, so I'm biased. But I have very fond memories of my Game Boy Color. Like others have mentioned, it wasn't exactly a big step up on its own (at least compared to the Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS), but I enjoyed it.

Too much bias? I think you're looking way too deep into this poll.

Game Boy Color, definitely. Over 800 games were created for it, it sure as hell counts as a system.

I have 4 main problems with Game Boy Color:
1. By the time it came out, Nintendo had spent millions of dollars successfully defending the monochromatic Game Boy against color challengers. We were told that color systems were blurry and had low battery lives, and were a waste of our money. And they were mostly right. And then suddenly Nintendo wanted us to waste money on THEIRS.
2. It was a recycled gimmick. Anyone remember 1994? The Super Game Boy? Through its patented Ted Turner technology, it took digital crayons to your GB games and added color. The GBC, at its launch, was THE EXACT SAME THING.
3. The palette sucked. The Game Gear, for all its blurry graphics and battery-raping, had a vibrant color palette. A lot of GBC games looked like shit. I don't know how many colors the GBC could handle at once, but games consistently felt less colorful than NES games.
4. The technology was super fucking dated. When GBC launched in 1998, we were already well into the 64-bit era. And we were still playing 8-bit handhelds? And because the technology was dated, there wasn't a whole lot of innovation. It was mostly shovelware and shiny license shovelware, with the occasional gem. There aren't very many memorable GBC titles because of the technology. If you go to GameFAQs, the top SEVEN games on the GBC Top 10 List are all Pokemon and Zelda. The remaining three are Dragon Quest.

Did the Dreamcast have a printer? No. GBC for sure.

Man i have to agree with Syd here. What did the GBC bring to the Game Boy besides color? The Dreamcast was the first console with a built in modem and online play. Can you surf the internet on a GBC? didn't think so. Granted, the browser was shit, but nonetheless, you had internet. I'm going to have to go Dreamcast on this one, GBC doesn't bring enough innovation to the table.

For me, my gaming world in 1999-2001 was the Dreamcast and Gameboy Color, so it's a tough choice for me. In the end I went with Dreamcast because it promised a kick ass Resident Evil game and delivered. The Gameboy Color promised a whole remake of the first game and instead gave us Gaiden. What a cock tease.

Never owned a Dreamcast, but it wins by default. It had both the Evolution games, and both the Sonic Adventure games. Very few games can compare.

This thread reminds me of how kick ass the dreamcast was. I loved how the memory cards would show some kick ass animation while you played.
Did anyone else love raising those chau things in sonic adventure 2?
