Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

I got the whole series on steam for $5... perhaps the greatest gaming bargain in the history of earth.

Although it seems a bit twitchy on Vista.

I'd love to see a reboot. X-Com is awesome!

It's too bad that everything mentioned about the new X-Com indicates that the only real tie-in will be the name. That's like rebooting the Thundercats, except their not cats anymore, but chinchillas and they don't fight, but are attending college and trying to get a rap album produced.

At it's core, yes.

I'm hoping that's not the fate of X-Com.

I thought that the recent one announced at E3 was a departure from the original gameplay and epically flamed.

its supposed to be a FPS and yes so far everyone is pretty much expeciting it to be shit, although its from the same company that brought us bioshock 1 and 2 so it should still be a good game

This didn't make sense to me.

"Wow, a developer with a proven reputation for making enjoyable, high-quality games is rebooting an old franchise and taking it in a new direction? It's automatically the WORST EVER."

Well from what it seems, the way the game plays will be entirely different from the original and it will be a fps. The problem with this is that the game play is what captured our hearts (or at least mine).

It isn't so much that it will be a bad game but that it will be so much different from what the die hard fans want. It just kind of blows that the success of this game means that our chances of a new xcom with the old game play will probably be smaller.

Agreed. The FPS market is already overcrowded and it was the gameplay/setting that sold people on the original. Stripping away all of those elements defeats the purpose of calling it a reboot; with nothing but the name to tie them together, you can flat out call it an entirely different franchise.

That said, it doesn't make sense for people to poo-poo a game that hasn't hit the market yet. Sure, it could be another shitty FPS, but only time will tell.

I disagree. If the game is a smash it it will re-ignite interest in the older games, and more people will play them. These people will become the new base, and influence the production of future titles.

If the current game is successful, a sequel will guaranteed be an FPS. Why take a risk and switch genres when they weren't willing to use the original one for the reboot? [/quote]
