Hey, so I love oysters, nowadays. I've been buying five tins lately, every time I go shopping, and as such eating them a lot. I adore the flavour and texture and all. They've quickly become a staple of my diet. But I find I'm sort of picky with my oyster brands. The texture is really weird with most of them. The only brands I really like are Ocean's and Safeway brand, surprisingly enough. I've never had fresh oysters, but that would be an experience I'd like to pursue.

Anyway, in the IRC I've noticed, a lot of people seem to be quite unfond of oysters. So I was just wondering what everyone's opinions on them were.

EDIT: Oh! And has anyone ever put oysters on chicken nuggets? I had that idea the other night, and I was quite impressed with the results.

<Drew_Linky> Well, I've eaten vegetables all of once in my life.

This should really be in the Food Forum. Could a mod please move this?

Also, I've never eaten an oyster.

Oysters = yum = win. Plus, aren't they an aphrodisiac?

Dude, this may sound weird.. but could you describe what an oyster actually tastes like? I cant have them, or any other kind of edible, shelled sea creature. I've had prawns which I dont mind missing out on, and lobster which I'm super sad about not being able to eat without it inflating my face and convincing my lungs to stop working.

But never an oyster.

Do enlighten me good sir, as to the mysterious appeal of these snot-rock looking things I see people quaffing in seafood places I can eat maybe two things from off the menu.
I am intrigued.

Nope, yuck. All seafood is repugnant to me, especially shellfish. Not to mention the fact that shellfish are responsible for the majority of food poisonings around the world, I stay far away from it.

Thanks to Good Eats, I now know that a lobster isn't that different from a cockroach. Knowing this, I have no problem boiling the oceanbugs and hearing that air escaping their shells. As for oysters, the one time I had them wasn't that good (improperly cleaned).

I've tried oysters with hot sauce. That was gross; I was not a fan.

I for one could put hot sauce on virtually anything.

Me too, generally. I have a bottle about two metres away right now actually, heh. I put hot sauce on most things, from time to time. It's really good with omelettes. I've been digging on that combination a lot, lately.

But yeah, it doesn't work with oysters at all, for me.

I dislike all Seafood, but Oysters in a can make me want to throw up even more. When I worked at Wal-Mart a can fell on my head and they were bad. As in expired and rancid oysters. O.o

as an aspiring chef, I eat everything at least once... I tried a raw oyster... was salty, slimy. cold but it wasnt repulsive, not my favorite dish but I can see why people like them

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!
