Did the PS1 have region lockout? If so, will a PS2 anti-region boot disc allow me to play regional PS1 games on my PS2?
I am looking to play Harmful Park.

I am pretty certain that the PS1 is region locked. I am not so sure about your second question though
Also, Harmful Park?

That's impressive that they were able to region lock the PS1. Science didn't even exist back then, everything was still mostly alchemy.

Yea, I wasn't sure if it was. I did a little bit of research and found people bitching that it was so I took their word for it. I don't think I ever tried to play any import PS1 titles.

There was a CD for use on the PS2 that unlocked region-coded PS1 games, but I can't remember what it was called. I just got a modchip and stopped worrying about disc swapping completely. Alternatively, if you're not against it, PS1 emulation has come a long way.

Yea, PS1 emulation is pretty much there but I am still a fan of the authentic experience.
I just wanna be able to play PS2 games on my PS3.

I remember there was a big deal about the lockout and Mod chips for the PS1 when Final Fantasy VIII was released in Japan.

My computer is 5 years old and probably can't run PS1 emulators at a good framerate. It can't run N64 ones at one. Pretty lame, considering its way more powerful than either. But I rather play it games on my TV, as my TV in a location that's more geared towards gaming.
"But Syd, you could build a computer especially for emulation and hook it up to your TV! And, and, and, you could get USB connectors and use all your old game controllers with it!"
Oh please. Shut the fuck up. That's way more effort than it's worth. I have better things to do with my time.
Plus, I'm a collector as much as I am a gamer. Probably moreso. There are a lot of unplayed games sitting in my collection right now.

Yea I pretty much agree.
So do you already have this game and are looking to play it, or are you trying to find a way to "unlock" your console before acquiring it?

Wow, I had never heard of the game before this thread, but after looking it up, it looks like a lot of fun.
I was expecting some twisted version of Theme Park or something like that, hah.

Nah. I don't know why, but I am all about shmups these days. When I'm on my XBox, my friends can normally see me playing Raiden Shooting Aces, Raiden IV, Deathsmiles, Espgaluda II or Mushihimesama Futari

Both the PS1 and PS2 are region locked. PS3 titles can be either region locked or region free, with the majority being free.

Yea, Sony definitely made the right call with the PS3, having regions is pretty stupid honestly and just prevents more sales of great games.

I was intrigued too and looked it up. I was gravely disappointed.

Regions were invented because we have PAL over here and you have NTSC over there. Basically, it's not something you can easily bypass, and apparently only now it became possible, now that most PAL televisions refresh at 60Hz instead of 50Hz.

I had a Boot Disc for PS1 and a spring. As long as the screen boots past the PS logo and you keep the button on the inside pressed down you could play burnt or imported games. Much easier than a mod chip.

There's Swap Magic if you're interested and don't mind taking a screwdriver to your PS2's disc drive.

Swap Magic doesn't require any tinkering from what I read, it's a boot disc and it has a slide tool to open the disc tray without resetting the game.

Isn't there a Gameshark for the PS1 that allows you to play foreign games on a US console? Or some shit that plugs into the port on the back?

I have that one, I know for one it does skip the intro so maybe it skips the whole process of checking the disc at all.
