Just thought I'd get a thread started on people's thoughts on the Bond character, series, movies, whatever!

I own every single Bond movie ever. Sure, they might not be Academy Award-winning material, but I'll be damned if you cannot find a more compact, awesome series of movies with humor, action, sweet gadgetry, and (usually) very attractive women all rolled into one. I love them with all my heart and hope they continue to be made for years to come.

Also, Roger Moore is a clown.

I'm not a huge fan of Bond movies, or espionage thrillers in general, but I have to say that Sean Connery was my favorite 007 and Daniel Craig the worst. I hope they don't make another one for a few years, give me time to forget about the last two. I'm sure at that point they'll start making the old ones because Hollywood can only make about five or six new movies every year that get a wide release.

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

I hated the two new ones. Daniel Craig is only a small reason. The main reason is that they didn't feel like Bond films. They took the fun out of the movies by trying to make them more "realistic and gritty". I loved the camp that made Bond films great. Especially during the Connery days.

I think I ended up watching James Bond Jr. much more than the actual movies. That being said, my favorite Bond was probably Timothy Dalton.

I enjoyed the latest two movies more than Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

Those gimmicky pieces of shit were some of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Without a doubt my favorite bond movie was Golden Eye.

i agree w/this.

pierce brosnan was not a bond that can kick ass. daniel craig is a bond that can kick ass. he looks like a tough guy.

that being said, i also agree w/knyte in terms of how the older bond movies had that cheesy/campy charm to them that made them enjoyable.

The new ones, especially Quantum of Solace, were pretty dull. Apparently society agrees; Quantum of Solace was out of theaters very quickly. I'll agree that The World Is Not Enough was pretty dull, but Tomorrow Never Dies was fantastic and I really like Die Another Day. Everyone shits on Die Another Day, but I love it. The action sequences, the gadgets, the references to all the other Bond movies, it's just a really fun time.

I couldn't agree more. When Bond picked up the "Field Guide to Birds of the West Indies" book with the author conspicuously obscured, I laughed out loud.

Everyone in the theater stared at me.

I think Die Another Day was lousy for me because of Halle Berry. She isn't a very good actress and Toby Stephens wasn't especially strong in his role either.

Personally I think that Pierce Brosnan was a decent bond in all of those films, but he wasn't well supported... except in Golden Eye.

If you look at the two Daniel Craig movies as just action flicks and not as Bond movies, they were pretty good. If you begin to think of him as James Bond, it feels forced.

Tomorrow Never dies had Jonathan Pryce and the late Vincent Schiavelli as two of the primary villains. How is that not good support?

I have to love Tomorrow Never Dies, just for the fact that the villian and I share the same family name.

I once thought about putting a note in my website that it was part of the Carver Media Group.

The World Is Not Enough is in fact awful.

I really loved Brosnan as Bond, in fact I am a pretty big Connery fan, but feel as though Brosnan is the superior Bond.

Brosnan is my favorite Bond because he epitomizes what I want Bond to be: charming but deadly. The fact that he generally got better scripts than Dalton or Moore makes him my favorite, but I love their movies too. But their movies are better than TWINE. You know why? Because stuff happens. I like it when stuff happens. The Man With The Golden Gun may have cheesy elements, up to and including an evil funhouse of doom, but at least it's not boring. TWINE is.

We can thank Goldeneye for giving us the first truly great console FPS.

Die Another Day was too ridiculous, and Quantum of Solace was too environmentally based, but I did very much enjoy how he killed the bad guy.

Got bad news for any future movies for now: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1291502/James-Bond-latest-movie-ice-cash-concerns.html

Yes, Timothy Dalton is my favorite bond and The Living Daylights is my favorite bond movie. My least favorite one is Octopussy.

And Never Say Never Again deserves it's own thread.

I like James Bond though i have beef with the new films.

Why?

Daniel Craig.

I love the whole character of bond as a suave, sweet talking, womaniser and not a guy built like a brick shithouse with absolutely no charm.

This is why i hate Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. He has destroyed the franchise for me.

I was gonna post in this yesterday, that Casiono Royale renewed my love for the films. I was so entertained by every aspect of it, compared to the last few Brosnan films, where he is just running around blowing up and shooting as many things as possible. QOS really didnt sit well with me, but then again, I only saw it once in theaters.

Casino Royale is a ridiculously good movie with one exception: I would have liked to have seen Q branch with John Cleese. I felt he was shortchanged and hung out to dry.

Quantum of Solace was too in-depth, it was trying to be too smart in my opinion. There's a line where movies go from too predictable and simple (The World is Not Enough - still a good movie) to Q of S too smart. The key is to find the line, like Goldeneye, Live and Let Die, and Goldfinger did.

I think that the weakest movies are the ones where the antagonist wasn't compelling enough (Octopussy, Thunderball, Diamonds are Forever) or the plot was stupid (A View to a Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies and Never Say Never Again).
