Everyone does the same amount of damage. As far as base combat ability, each turtle is identical.

Who has the best special move is a matter of opinion, I've always been a fan of Leonardo's, though Raphael's is awesome to spam at one life.

This is a common misconception. In the NES versions of TMNT2 and TMNT3, all of the turtles have the same weapon range. I don't know if this holds true for the SNES/Genesis or the arcade versions, however. I don't think so.

Donnie is the traditional geek favorite, though honestly, I like Raph more.

It is, but that level is different for Red Mages than it is for White/Black Mages.

Your biggest danger in the Cave is the third floor, which has Wizards, Coctracies, and hoards of undead. That's where you need your LIT2, ICE2, and FIR2/HRM2 spells respectively.
