I'd say LttP is the best one, however my personal favorite would be the first one. Then again I've only played 3 Zelda games.

I always desperately wanted another Zelda like Zelda II. I like the leveling up and progression and style of the game in general.

I remain hopeful that we'll get another side-scrolling Zelda sometime soon (in the next few years), since side-scrollers are actually popular again.

I pick Majora's. The collectible mask aspect really made you explore to find all the masks, thus making the endgame much easier. Other than that, it's basically a carbon copy of OoT, presentation-wise and gameplay-wise. Save for that mask thing. Which I love.

Have you ever tried Battle of Olympus? It was strikingly similar. I actually enjoyed it more than Zelda II. It was insanely fucking hard though. I think it took me about 13 years to beat.

Zelda II was brutal, go and play it right now, those fuckers that throw axes in the caves? The invisible ghosts? Those Knight assholes? Those fucking jumping spider things? They will kick your ass.

If my sources are correct I believe the Bandai Zelda games were enhanced remakes of the original Zelda game, not 100% sure though.

Sort of, they followed a similar layout but there were changes here and there, the timer being the obvious major one. It's been dumped as a rom years ago with the timer frozen so it's possible to play through the entire game, the location of the final boss in it is actually pretty cool.
Zelda II is my favorite even though I'll admit to LttP being better. When exactly did people start to hate this game? When it came out, everybody I know liked it but admitted that it was hard as hell. Of course that's part of the reason I like it so much, when's the last time you've seen the game over screen in a Zelda game that wasn't part 2?
Maybe it's similar to the Mario 2 thing where everybody loved the game until they heard it was a port of Doki Doki Panic and decided it sucked now and wasn't a real Mario game.

This is a pretty tough call for me between Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. I've also played Link's Awakening and Oracle of Seasons, but while they are pretty solid games they just don't provide a full-on experience, perhaps because the games limited you to just the A and B buttons to use items.
Link to the Past wins by a nose because it was my first 'real' Zelda game (I owned Link's Awakening beforehand, but I was too young to really comprehend the controls and gameplay) and thus I - along with many of you, it sounds like - could trip nostalgia on the game for an absurdly long amount of time. Also, this was my first introduction to the whole Light World, Dark World deal, so back then it was a novel concept.
Still, Ocarina of Time is special to me 'cause of the Young Link becoming Adult Link themes and the badassery that follows. It was also one of the first three-dimensional games that I played, so actually having to aim your bow or run across the horizon was something I hadn't taken for granted yet.
Wind Waker probably has the most charm out of the three, though. I'm one of those people who didn't get bothered by all the ocean sailing or the cel-shaded art style. However, I'm still a little disappointed in the game's small amount of dungeons.

This is tough, but I gotta go with LtP. It may not be the most epic of the Zeldas, but its the most beautiful, and the most fun. I'll still never forget that awe-inspiring moment of walking out into Hyrule field for the first time in OoT, or the joy of leaping Epona out of the barnyard...but individual moments do not an entire game make. So in spite of also loving OoT, LtP is my pick.

My favorite is Link's Awakening. It's just a game that I can always pick up and play and enjoy a lot, even though I will concede that it isn't the best Zelda.

I think most of the people that hate Zelda II got into the series after it was released and after there were more games in the series. I mean, all the other ones are different, so it's easy to see how people would get turned off by it.
My personal favorites? Minish Cap, Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, the original... Twilight Princess, maybe?
