I could have sworn there was a thread for this, but I guess not.
Anyways, I was a huge fan of the original game and I don't even really like sports games all too much. I played NBA Jam: TE on the genesis into the ground, winning the season and championship with every team in the game. With that said, I was a bit skeptical when I heard they were remaking the game for the Wii.
My fears were eased a great deal when I heard more details however. EA hired Mark Turmell, creator of the original NBA Jam just to consult on the game, they also hired the guy that did the original announcing which really rounds out the experience. It's still 2 on 2, and they are keeping the original style of realisitic bodies combined with photos of the players making various faces, only with a new (HD) coat of paint.
It looks great in action and all the trademark shit seems to be coming back. Outrageous dunks and alley-oops, catching on fire, breaking backboards. I can't wait for this to come out, also it's Wii exclusive.
Boom Shakalaka indeed. Looks goofy, but that might work. It's good to know at least SOMEONE in the gaming industry likes to try something a bit different when reviving classics.
Sadly, that line of thought brought us Final fight Revenge AND Streetwise

Of course it looks goofy, the original series was very goofy, but that over-the-top goofiness is what cements it in so many gamers memory banks.
At the Buzzer! I hope this game does well, I know that I loved the original and I will definitely be buying this one, but I feel like its goofy look is going to cause people who haven't ever played the original to write it off as an inferior game.
Where's Doctor Wiley... Oh no, too late.

One of the greatest summers of my life revolved around my brother and I playing NBA Jam on the Genesis to death. It's awesome they are reviving it, but keeping the trademark wackiness and "bobble" heads. I wish they'd kept the 16-bit voice though as the updated one didn't sound quite right in that trailer and any callback from the classic NBA Jam would be awesome.
It's too bad it's on the Wii though. Hopefully after a period of exclusivity, they'll release it for the other consoles.
EA already said they will release it on PS3 & X360 if it does well on Wii.

NBA Jam Confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3
The former Wii-exclusive NBA Jam going to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 hasn't been a well-kept secret. It was outed by the German ratings board, then again by our own. EA curiously announced its release date along with NBA Elite 11, which now suddenly makes perfect sense.
Apparently, NBA Elite 11 will include a download code for NBA Jam on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A press release sent out by EA today mentions that the code will allow users to access three modes of NBA Jam: Play Now, Classic Campaign, and Online. That may sound like it's a trial version and the full game will come later, but according to the PlayStation Blog, "the ONLY way you will be able to play NBA JAM for the PS3 is to buy NBA ELITE 11." We can only assume, for now, that the same is true for the Xbox 360 version.
EA has been emphasizing the Wii version, which made it seem like a timed exclusive. Instead, it's the only "complete" version, and the only one that players can pay for on its own. EA has been in the habit of including downloadable codes in its new games, but this pits that strategy directly against a downloadable game on another platform. The publisher might be testing the waters to see what kind of difference the alternative methods make.
Did anyone play it on genesis or snes aside from with pals?

Supposedly, it won't be available separately. And it's going to have less features.
They will buckle and make it available separately. It's too big of a money making opportunity. Granted it will less "features", but online play has not even been confirmed for the Wii while it has on PS3 and 360.
So yea, what FNJ said.
Oh and on NBA JAM: TE for the Genesis, I won the championship with every team, unlocking the NBA JAM: All star team. Although about half of those games were probably co-op with a buddy.
Gameplay footage of the HD build on 360. Looks soooo fun, cannot wait to play this.
EDIT: Despite this thread being renamed by a mod as the "lite version" on PS3 and 360, no online has been confirmed for the Wii version as it has been for the HD consoles, that alone makes this version more viable for me.
That kind of thing still pisses me off today. The slightly outdated hardware Nintendo uses is an easy target for internet trolling. At least they're going all-out for the 3ds.

Honestly, who cares if it has online? Fuck online, get real friends, douchebags. Online play is fucking gay. You're all going to become dumpy idiots who never leave the house and don't know how to interact with real humans. You're all going to die of heart attacks, and you're going to die virgins. The human race is going to slowly die off because society has made it too fucking easy for you to stay in dark rooms with bright screens all day by yourself and yell curse words into your fruity little headsets.
I am a Nintendo fanboy, you know this. But I have friends, whom I am good friends with IRL, but I am now separated by distance (friends I grew up playing the original with).
An online mode let's me play with them when I otherwise would not be able to.
I love local multi-player and support it as often as possible.
So the Wii version of this came out today, I kinda want to pick it up but I will probably just wait for the PS3 version now since the next gen versions are gonna be fully featured now.
Originally EA was gonna bundle the game with an online code on NBA Elite 11' to download NBA Jam and it was indeed gonna be a "lite" version. However, NBA Elite 11' got postponed indefinitely so now NBA Jam is being marketed as a fully featured multi-platform title (However even more so on 360/PS3 as they will have online and HD).
NBA Jam is no longer a Wii-exclusive in any way, shape, or form. The version that is hitting Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which was originally supposed to be a downloadable version that came free with the now-delayed NBA Elite 11, will have as much of the content of the Wii version as the developers can pack into it.
Also, they brought back having political contemporaries in this game.
Continuing a tradition set by the original versions of NBA Jam, which included political figures like Bill Clinton and Prince Charles, EA's latest game in the franchise will feature some more contemporary characters, like President Barack Obama and Sarah Palin.
They're just the start, though; the American political spectrum is being represented in force with actual teams based on the Republican and Democratic parties, the former starring George W Bush, John McCain, Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin, the latter both Clintons, Al Gore, Joe Biden and President Obama.
Now that it's a stand alone game, how much is this going to cost? I hope this isn't going to be a $60 game now.
More Importantly, Chris Mullin, the greatest three point shooter in video game history better be in the game. Chris Mullin + Tim Hardaway = Unstoppable
