I recently started watching some foreign films.. I've seen a few in the past, but started watching a genre extensively. For those film crituques on the forums i'm sure Kurosowa is no strange name to you. I thought I'd recommend some of his work, and some other foreign films. I recommend watching them in this order. These films are classical, highly acclaimed by both average viewers and film critics.
Here's a list of what i've watched recently:
Yojimbo
The Seven Samurai
Sanjuro (sequel to Yojimbo)
The Twilight Samurai
Le comte de monte cristo (The Count of Monte Cristo) a great book, and a great french film rendition of this tory.
Moulin Rouge
Some films everyone probably has seen, by Bruce Lee. I don't know if they should be considered classic, but just worthwhile to see such a talented invidual in action.
The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, Enter the Dragon, Game of death... and a handful of others he did worth looking into.
Feel free to recommend other foreign films that may often not be heard about for those of us in the U.S. I don't want to come of as an ad for netflix but that is a good way to access the films i listed and countless others films. IF you don't know anotherway, second best option probably would be the local library.

Kirosawa is a strange name to me...
Kurosawa on the other hand is one of the greatest directors of all time.

I'm not too particular on what qualifies, just want to introduce some nice foreign material, because they are so often underrated and overlooked. I think certain things are reversing that which is good, people are becoming more accepting of reading text when people talk, and having a film not be in the native tongue. There's just a lot of good work hidden. I'm looking for more to watch myself.
Thanks for contributing, and welcome to the forums, I'm an NES guy myself, but SNES was good to : ).

Foreign as in not made in the U.S. (in particular those not well known). Because if you think about there has to be really good films made in other countries, by some great minds abroad, that just don't get surfaced here.
Are you 20 then?

Developed and released first in Japan, later released to US. Yeah, it's considered foreign. Excellent movie, I agree.
Also, a well known one would be 'Downfall', or 'Der Untergang' in German. That is one of the best movie's I've ever seen, not least because of the nostalgia brought about by watching the Hitler rants.

Classic? Debatable. I want to look the other way on this one, though.

I think historic cinema will smile upon it. It's almost 10 years old too. Plus, it was already a classic in it's time. But I can see where you're coming from. I would argue 'City of God' but that is also recent. Nerts. Haha

i'd say that the Brotherhood of the Wolf and Battle Royale are both classic foreign films, and fuck anyone who says otherwise.

Jackie Chan's The Drunken Master, The Police Story and Wheels on Meals (Spartan X) as well as most of his movies pre-Rumble in the Bronx, Oldboy, Das Boot, Ong Bak 2, Zatoichi (any) is all I can think of atm.

Ong Bak 1 I thought was decent havent seen the second, Have only seen 1 or 2 Zatoichi films, I did enjoy them though. Sadly that's one set of movies I can't stream off netflix. I can order them one at a time for free though... which i'll probably have to do. There is a Zatoichi meets Yojimbo film i'd like to see.
I've heard good things about the foreign film Mongol, and I think that'll be my next movie I watch.

YES. I own Drunken Master...so funny. I also loved Project A. The bike scene was classic. Jackie Chan is a fucking genius. Armour of God also kicks ass.

Stupid question, Amadeus isn't foreign, is it? Can't remember if it was made in the US.
