It came out last week and I decided to pick it up. Haven't really heard much talk of it elsewhere, so I'm seeing if anybody here has an opinion on it.
I'm on the fence. The new balance changes didn't really balance the game, but instead swapped around the tier lists. I'm also a little disappointed with the amount of new content. I would have preferred new characters (that I don't have to pay extra for) over the gameplay modes that were added, but I guess the idea was to really have people pay $60 all along.
Yeah, it's hard for me to not compare this to SSF4 in terms of value.

I heard it has a pretty fleshed out tutorial mode, which I found interesting, but not enough to warrant a purchase.

I got it. It's sitting unopened on my desk, along with Raiden Fighter Aces and Arc Rise Fantasia.
I'm pissed that we weren't offered a super sweet limited edition like Japan got. What's really weird is that Aksys offered limited editions for DeathSmiles and Record of Agarest War, which don't have anywhere near the fanbase that BlazBlue has.

My friend like BlazBlue, and own both versions.. i guess this is a slightly better version than what they owned (this selling the same game twice trend of companies is really pissing me off). It works it works.. right. They also played Guilty Gear, i personally just spam at this game, I know eventually all games like that spamming won't win it for you, but right now i have no clue what's going on lol.

Ssf4 was a great value, assuming you didn't buy the original when it first came out like I did

I bought it on release day and don't regret it. It's still a very good value overall.

About 3 days ago I suddenly went from "eh" to "Holy shit I want this game now!" out of nowhere.
The characters and complex mechanics interest me very much and the story, I hear, is excellent and well-done, even by fighting game standards.

I never got the original BlazBlue, but just as I was planning to, Continuum Shift was released and got me thinking. Should I get CS over the original? Am I missing some story or something? Or is CS just a souped up version (Kinda SSFIV) that renders the original game pointless? I'd like your opinion, please.

It's too late now because you haven't been PAYING ATTENTION.

Storywise, you'll miss out on some details, but both games tend to deal out the story in bits and pieces with little explanation.
CS is the "rebalanced" version that features more characters and is designed so that rebalancing can be done via online patches instead of releasing more disks, same with adding characters. It would be the safer bet since most have switched to CS anyways.
The limited edition of CT would be worth it for the soundtrack disks and in-depth tutorial.
