Yeah, I kindasorta left my brand new (less than a month old) iPod Nano 8GB in my pocket and it went through the washer and dryer. I've got it in a bowl of dry rice right now, as I've heard that helps, but is there anything else you guys would suggest?

My dad dropped his blackberry in a river, a cup of pepsi, and a few other places, and it still works. Why aren't all phones waterproof now?

I've often wondered why they can waterproof a $15 watch from walmart.
But not a $300 phone

Because the phone is more sophisticated technologically?
Because phones are more concerned about being sleek and sexy, and therefore don't want to afford the extra space for waterproofing?
Just spitballimg here, could be wrong.

Phones have to take sound input, watches don't. If a phone was completely isolated, it would mess up the sound, I think.

Nice profile pic... maybe the reason is they want it to break so you have to buy a new one. the flip phones, or slide phones. Probably make them near water proof when they're shut, and when they open up part is not water proof.
I agree it would effect the sound, and the part you charge it would need some sort of cap.. I think it'd be possible.
I always check my pant pockets before i throw them into the washer.. because i have a habit of leaving my wallet in them .
Good luck with the ipod, maybe it's still under warranty...

If it is under Warranty don't tell them you washed it.

They have special stickers that change colors when they get wet. They'll know. Let it dry for at least 24 hours.

I've done this. Twice. And with my mp3 player.

I'd look this up first, because I could be full of shit, but I think I saw on Good Morning America that you should soak it rubbing alcohol, then let it dry for like three or four days. Rubbing alcohol is supposed to force the water out somehow.

I've soaked my iPod in rubbing alcohol and it fixed the problem for me. Again, please look it up and be sure you want to do that, but it worked for me. I got the idea from a friend of mine who used the same thing to fix his iPhone. It forces the water out, and then dries safely.

Worst case scenario, buy one from SAMs club, put your ruined one in the box, and return it.
Trust me.

Well, thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I slept over to a friends house, and left my ipod with the screen at a slight upwards tilt, in a bowl full of rice covered in plastic wrap next to the window. When I came home today, I tried the iPod, and it worked! It plays music fine, the click wheel works but.. the screen is very black. Like the old gameboys, but worse. Think maybe the backlight was shorted, or destoryed or something?

Now return it to SAMs and say the screen didn't work when you bought it!

You don't have them in Newfoundland. I don't even know if St. John's has a Price Club.

Sam's Club is a chain of membership-only retail warehouse clubs. Founded in 1983, it is owned and operated by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and is named after Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton.

St. John's does have a Price Club, it's just called Costco now
Sam's Club however, we do not have.
