Are mixed marriages this big of a deal? The tone of the article seemed so put off by the couple's decision and exceptionally critical of the challenges that lay ahead.

I know several people in mixed marriages that are happy, and several who have the same religion and are miserable. I guess I just don't understand why this is such a big deal.

Yeah, it must be a slow news month or something. Inter religion marriage to me is just a non issue. Who gives a fuck?

This country is getting less religious all the time. Of people who claim to be a certain religion, the vast majority don't follow most of the rules. Yet people still cling to it as something to get upset about whenever they feel threatened.

Seriously? That's ridiculous. People are so incredibly unreligious these days, it's not really an issue.

Personally though, I don't think I could marry someone who wasn't Catholic or willing to convert. I want to get married in a church. You know, a nice one.

Seconded. And I'm wondering what happens when/if religion disappears completely from this country.

That's right, I forgot that only Catholics have nice churches.

Uh, well we are. They're called cathedrals. Only Protestant cathedral I've ever seen is that tacky piece of shit in Washington DC.

When I see cathedrals I think of a serial killer playing with a voodoo doll and beating himself with a whip. I'm being silly, please none of you come flog me.

While it started off as a Catholic cathedral in the 13th century, Queen Elizabeth I turned York Minster into a Protestant (Church of England) cathedral and now it holds services for all religions.

So there is at least one more Protestant/non-Catholic cathedral out there, and happens to be one of the biggest in Europe.

It's also pretty gorgeous and powerful to see in person and I'm not even religious. I recommend it to anyone taking a trip to Northern England.

what's more worrisome about this union to me is the blue-bloodiness of the whole deal. both of his parents were state reps and his father was a bigtime crook who got a slap on the wrist. we already know of the scary and oft-deadly legacy of the clintons. now let's throw in the fact that he (the groom) used to have a cushy position in goldman sachs. bankster babies anyone?

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

Wow. And here I was under this weird impression I was living in the 21st century. Rolling Eyes Why is the religion of her husband even an issue?

EDIT: Just to clarify, that wasn't directed at anyone here. Just the general media drooling over shit like this.

How you look doesn't often matter when you have power. Her father was the president of the United States, and a well liked one at that. In addition her mother ran for it and is currently the Secretary of State.

To many people, her physical appearance could be that of Oscar the Grouch and it wouldn't matter.
