I got this game just before the 4th of July sale ended with Steam. I am loving it. I have gotten a Siren to level 20 and have been focusing on burst pistols and SMGs with elemental attacks.
I look forward to playing through with a different class and possibly seeing how respecs can adjust the game play. I know I am late to the party, but is anyone else still playing? |
I play on the 360, but I have a high level beserker and a low level siren. The siren is tons of fun.
I find the beserker works great with shotguns and the siren is a diva with pistols that zoom and low recoil smgs.

I don't know what that means... yet.
I am excited to see how gameplay changes with other characters. I'm hoping that the talent trees really mix up how the style of play works.

Got this game, haven't played it yet. Once I get the Burnmaster and Eugene on Fallout 3, I'll try it.

The characters will always have certain things that they're good at no matter what, but let's take the beserker for example.
My friend plays one where he concentrated on the right branch mostly, and he enjoys the benefits of using rocket launchers at shotgun distance, soaking up the splash damage on purpose to make his beserker punches stronger when activated, which he then uses for massive damage.
I concentrated more on the other two trees. And therefore I stay at mid range getting shotgun kills. I don't worry about taking damage because I have a huge shield and lots of health. When they finally whittle me down, I can activate beserker to refil my health and survive until my shield recharges. If I'm downed, I have extra time to get a second wind, and get more health back when I do. Second winds are also easier to get by then. Usually just a shotgun blast to the face of whatever is in front of me.
Basically I play more of a balancing act, and he kills things and then recuperates.

That same friend plays a siren, and his favorite thing is to use her buffs to incapacitate enemies at close to mid range and kill them with grenades and headshots, while I play my siren from a distance, using her buffs that reduce recoil and increase accuracy. I can zoom in and shoot a guy in his face four or five times with a faster, weaker gun to kill him, using phasewalk to get the fuck out of the combat zone if I need too. He can phasewalk into a group of guys, then pick them off With a strong weapon while they're all dizzy or slow, using melée attacks that stun to ensure that they don't recover.
There are better ways, and maybe even proper ways to play these characters, but this is what works for us.

That's cool. I definitely like how you can adopt different styles instead of just moving forwards the same way with all characters and builds.
I love the second wind idea. It really makes you rage instead of give up.

I love the second wind. More games should adopt it.

The second wind is in fact great.
I have a level 60 Mordecai with the pistol, sniper and smg proficiencies leveled to the max (50). I also have some super duper brutal guns. The DLC for this game was/is fantastic. I can't wait to hear on word of a sequel.

It wasn't so bad, because I was collecting brains as I was doing other missions.
The third expansion with T-Bone Junction is really, really good though.

It's good to read all the hype you guys have proclaimed for this game. Me and some friends have been waiting for a Game of the Year/Pre-Bundled DLC edition to release, which may be coming rather soon (http://kotaku.com/5584344/borderlands-game+of+the+year-edition-hinted-by-gamestop).
Also, just thought I'd let you Xbox 360 owners know that Borderlands is rocking the marketplace's Deal of the Week sale. It looks like all three current DLC packages are at half off (http://www.xbox.com/en-us/live/marketplace/dealoftheweek/), so now might be the time to get everything if you aren't being an ultra patient cheap-ass like me.
Also, does anyone know if a fourth DLC package will be released? The current maximum level is 61, although I have read that through hacking level 70 is highest possible, which makes me thing DLC 4 will up the cap.

I was actually a bit sad when you found TK hanging by his leg on the ceiling fan.

I remember playing with friends back when I was a low level, and getting destroyed by crawmwrax in one claw swipe.

He still will pretty much even at the higher levels, it's all about strategy and teamwork.
Crawmerax is quite an asshole, I daresay that he is a bit broken.

For sure, At this point I can kill him in about 7 well placed sniper shots.
Still, he can kill me in like 2 hits, and the acid he spits at you and the minions he sends out are just awful.

Just got this too. Hadn't purchased a game in a few months, and this was a great choice. So much customization it's ridiculous. I highly recommend it; easy to pick up and play, great control, sooooo many guns too. Without that retarded COD 2 "Let's make this game realistic so you can only carry 2 guns" bullshit.
Only problem is, I've already burnt myself out on it. Oh well. Back to Super Nintendo...

I have a level 26 or so hunter, I'd be glad to play with you guys. I don't usually play online because people go wayyyy too fast and I don't get to enjoy anything.

I have found that during Playthrough #2, I am dying a lot more. It is odd, but it isn't from being killed normally. I am getting run over by cars, or falling off ledges... I think I got more clumsy.
Level 47 at this point.

I'm playing The Secret Armory on second play through with a 57 hunter and I'd just like to state that I fucking hate Drifters! Whenever I get out of my car to collect items, there's instantly a cage of legs around me and I'm getting destroyed.
