By ARUN KRISTIAN DAS

MYFOXNY.COM - A man wearing a Darth Vader mask and cape robbed a Chase bank branch on Long Island on Thursday, police said.

The thief entered a branch in Setauket at 11:30 a.m. and demanded money from a teller. But instead of using a light saber, "Darth" threatened the teller with a semiautomatic gun.

The teller gave the robber some cash from the drawer.

A customer started to battle Vader inside the bank.

Det. Sgt. William Lamb of the Suffolk County Police Department says, "They got into a bit of a physical altercation. No one was hurt."

The Darth Vader thief, described as between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, then took off running. In addition to the mask and cape, he was also wearing camouflage pants.

He headed east through the bank's parking lot and then jumped on a bicycle and took off.

Witnesses say his cape was waving behind him as he ran.

A witness said, "I thought it was just a joke but I guess he was serious."

Police have not said if Luke Skywalker has offered to help track "Vader" down.

Det. Sgt. Lamb says, "After doing this for 28 years, nothing surprises me anymore but this was a unique one."

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

It's nice to see a new breed of criminals. Ones that understand it's a tramatic experience for the teller so they try to lighten the mood a little and have some fun with the robbery.

Sad to see him end up like that. Vader could use his force powers for children's magic shows at least. That's a way to make money.

This guy wasn't interested in lighting the mood of a bank robbery. A Darth Vader costume covers his entire face. It's a way to be memorable without revealing who you are.

This is just the rise of the super villain my friends (or at least the costumed villain.) This time it was Vader, but soon criminals will be making their own custom suits and inventing names for themselves.

Kinda clever people, people wouldn't stop you walking down the street in that. And the bank people probably not immediately think crook when you walk in a costume like that.

pretty funny.. wonder how much he got.

This is funny, even more so than the guy who tried robbing a convenience store with a gun-shaped lighter (not to mention he was wearing panties on his head).

Once I see a bank robber dressed like the Living Bullet, then I'll have seen everything.

Maybe he made his getaway on this subway car:
