Despite the best medicine had to offer, my dad is with this world no longer. He passed away sometime last night, in his sleep, so there wasn't any pain. We believe that he died as complications with chemo (he had a short emergency a few weeks ago related to that), possibly a heart attack. I go to the funeral home for the first viewing of the casket tomorrow. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m., and then there's the burial down in Douglas, Georgia.
There are some things about him I'll never forget. He loved to ride his motorcycles, indeed I'm wearing one of the shirts he'd bring home from trips in reverence of him. He rode once or twice for Ride for Life or something similar. I remember once, he saw I was bored and instead of going to work he called in sick and took me to Blockbuster to rent a game.
I'm still in a state of shock and truth be told I haven't seen his body since he died. The last things he ever said to me were "Do you have any apartment guides?" and "That's alright. I'll see you Ryan." It's a small comfort to me that he saw me working instead of loafing about like I'd done for most of my life after high school. I wanted to tell him about these forums; that everyone was cheering for him, but the opportunity never really presented itself.
I thank you all for your well wishes, as I truly believed they helped him fight the cancer, despite losing the war for his body.
I never knew I could cry so loud or punch through a wall before.

I hear and understand your problem man. A decade ago my dad had a massive heart attack (he was 35, it's hereditary) and because he had long hair, the docs at Chilliwack general Hospital figured he was a crackhead and didn't give him any meds. He sat and suffered with that heart attack for 8 hours before my mom finally convinced them he wasn't a druggie. By then, a huge part of his heart was dead. Back in October and November of '06, he had these little cardiac "episodes" where he kinda felt everything stop and the docs say that they're signs of another massive heart attack on it's way. They also say that he won't survive it. Now he's on the emergency angiogram list...until June, which is god damn ridiculous. I graduate in June, so there's a chance he won't be at my graduation. Hell, there's a chance he won't live until June for his test, let alone the wait for the actual surgery to save him. So you ain't alone in this bro, I'll look out for ya.
And hey, Eddie Van halen had tongue cancer. he survived, and he's still talking and singing even.

I don't know what to tell ya man.... i'd tell you a want of mine would be to have his voice recorded somewhere, so you can remember it.. but if that were happening in my family i'm nto sure if i would record teh voice, as i'd rather just state that nothing bad was going to happen thus irrelevant to record his voice.
I hope everythign goes well, and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I sympathize. My grandfather died of chemical-induced cancer. He worked on an IBM assembly line, so that's where we think it came from.

Best of luck to you, your father, and your family. Times like those are not easy, but pulling through those times is part of life.

I'm pulling for your dad, man. Keep your head up, and we'll all hope for the best.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Just remember that even when things seem like they couldn't get any worse, miracles happen. Just pray and hope, and even if the doctors hopes seem bleak, just keep hoping, because it makes a difference, it really does. From personal experience, my family was rushed to the hospital an insane amount of times, because the doctor's had lost hope for my grandfather, all the while we continued to pray... he had around 12 heart attacks, 2 triple bi-pases, prostate cancer, and lung cancer (and he never smoked a day in his life). He never lost hope.
Make sure you're father doesn't lose hope, because the best thing he can do is just continue to think positively.

Crap Update: The cancer has spread, but all I know as to a destination is "throughout."
I'll be heading out in a bit with my nana to do the grocery shopping for him.

I found out this morning that my dad's aunt's (my great aunt, I guess?) house burned down last night. She's OK, but the house is gutted.

After.
Lord Sathien, in all seriousness, that really sucks. I know it's not entirely realistic, but I hope things get better somehow.
And I wasn't trying to hijack your thread. I just wanted to show you that you're not alone in misfortune.

I share Syd's sentiments; I'm afraid I'm not one for prayer, but I'll absolutely be hoping for the best. Hang in there.
