article wrote:
Things aren't going well for the original Dark Lord of the Sith.

Dave Prowse, who wore the Darth Vader costume in the first three 'Star Wars' films, has been banned from the forthcoming Lucas Film Star Wars Celebration party in Orlando, Florida. Not only that, he's been told his presence won't be welcome at any Lucas Film/Star Wars-related events.

As Prowse announced on his website: "It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have 'burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself' -- no other reason given ..."

Hmmm. There could be a reason, though, seeing as Uncle George is probably fuming at the comments Prowse recently made to SlashFilm about not receiving any residual payment for 'Return of the Jedi' -- because it didn't make a profit(!): "I get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has never gone into profit, we've got nothing to send you. Now here we're talking about one of the biggest releases of all time ..."

Maybe poor old Dave should learn to keep his mouth shut. Otherwise we'll have to sit through another re-release of the original films with Prowse's presence completely replaced by a digital Vader. Seriously, you know it could happen ...

I lost faith in Lucas after he reinserted that scene with Han and Jabba. Also, the newer cantina song in RotJ was god damned awful. Absolutely bullshit.

Not exactly on topic, but SW related.....

Did the concept of a "Sith" exist in the original 3 movies? As far as I can tell, they only came up with that term in the newer movies. Vader in the originals was on the Dark Side of the force, but I don't recall many other details beyond that.

I thought it was established that the Emperor was at least Sith in the original trilogy.

Hokay, the title "Dark Lord of the Sith" did exist in the original trilogy, it was just mentioned in the novelization of A New Hope as Darth Vader's title. The enigmatic Sith weren't mentioned on screen until The Phantom Menace however, so it's really up to each person to decide when the first mention of the Sith was. Hell chronologically there's two different Sith definitions, the original race who lived on Korriban and Ziost and the more common Sith Order, which is just a sect of Force Sensitive people who use the Dark Side. I could go on but then again I'm already questioning my forum name choice as I know considerably more about Star Wars than Doctor Who.

I've never read any of the SW novels. Which is supposed to be the higher authority, the books or the movies?

I know that I heard Vader referred to as the Dark Lord of the Sith long before Phantom Menace came out. Don't remember where though. Also, Star Wars Expanded Universe is canon.

Yeah, he's been known as the Dark Lord of the Sith since the novelization of Episode IV, which came out in 1976 if my memory is correct, although it took them a while to explain just what the Sith were. Timothy Zahn wanted to call a race that he introduced in his Thrawn Trilogy (Which are probably the 3 best Star Wars EU books ever) the Sith, as they were indentured servants to Darth Vader. However Lucas rejected that idea and they were renamed to the Nohgri. As for canon, just about everything that's created with Lucas' approval is considered canon, some exceptions being Lego Star Wars, any and all Dark Side endings in video games, and anything with the Star Wars Infinities logo stamped on it. So yes, even the Holiday Special is canon.
EDIT:
Also, in the case of games where you may choose the gender all canon choices have been proven to be male except in the case of Knights of the Old Republic II

Alan Dean Foster actually wrote the novelization. Also, one major difference that pissed me off is that Vader actually defeats Obi Won in the novelization, but in the movie he sacrifices himself. Lame. I guess Sir Alec Douchebag didn't want to move around enough to film an actual duel.

How fucking unnecessary were both of those edits! The Jabba scene was a fucking joke. No George, it wasnt innovative or even humorous. It looks exactly like what it is, a shitty CG slug and a horrendous attempt at trying to pass off a complete fuck-up as an intentional quirk. Well done, you dickhead.

I hated the added Jabba scene because it's almost identical dialogue to the fucking cantina scene where Han shoots Greedo (after getting shot at first, of course). It's completely useless, and it made me cringe every time I saw Han 'step' on Jabba's tail and the shitty effects of making it look like he's actually going up and down. And the dance scene in Jedi? WTF?

I'm so glad he finally released the originals on DVD a few years back.

Excatly. They just suddenly boosted him up and then back down. I would sooner believe there was, somehow, some kind of localised earthquake within that specific area of my television screen than that he stepped on ol' slugmans tail. I find the fact that he decided that was good enough nothing short of insulting.

So Han stepping on Jabba's tail was actually some kind of mistake? Please elaborate?

They originally took that scene out, so they didnt do it with Puppet Jabba. All they had was the archived footage of Han walking around the actor doing Jabbas lines. So they stuck a crappy CG Jabba over the actor and put the scene back in later editions of the movie. Only problem was, becuase Harrison Ford was walking around the actor, who just happened to be tailless, he circled around him very smoothly. The solution to this was to boost the image of Han circling the CG Jabba when he was behind him, where his tail would be, and couple it with a gay animation of Jabba going "ow thats my fucken tail" it looked completely fake, and the scene itself was totally unnecessary.

Uh, I don't know if you're high or something, but the movie scene is way better than the novelization you just described.
