We've been constantly monitoring the feedback you've given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums. As a result of those discussions, we've decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums.
It's important to note that we still remain committed to improving our forums. Our efforts are driven 100% by the desire to find ways to make our community areas more welcoming for players and encourage more constructive conversations about our games. We will still move forward with new forum features such as conversation threading, the ability to rate posts up or down, improved search functionality, and more. However, when we launch the new StarCraft II forums that include these new features, you will be posting by your StarCraft II Battle.net character name + character code, not your real name. The upgraded World of Warcraft forums with these new features will launch close to the release of Cataclysm, and also will not require your real name. |

Like a dog walking away with its tail between its legs.
How fucking stupid was this. Then again, any publicity is good publicity right? It got Bliz on the front page of the news again and again for a few days.

Never touched WoW, never will.
One has to wonder if Blizzard planned this all along though. Like GPFontaine said, it got them in the news. Also, fuck Blizzard.

I know approximately.
Third week of August 2007.
I had put in 127 days of game time over 2 years. Shame on me. That is too much of one's life to sacrifice. I wish I had been doing something else during that time.

I don't see what's wrong with them changing their stance on this. You'd rather have them tell everyone to fuck off and force real ID anyway?
As for apple, I refuse to buy anything from them because it's double the price of what it's worth.
Same reason why I didn't buy that Sony laptop.

Yeah, it's cool they listened to the community and changed their minds so I give them +1 for that, but I'll be wary of Blizzard/Activision in the future, not because they waffled, but because they made the stupid decision in the first place without realizing what a horrible idea it was.

i would rather see them say fuck off and tell the customers to suck it up and deal. it would show that they have some nads and likely would create a mass exodus from the forums that would create a lot of other places where the gamers could gather instead. not to mention the fact it would really be a litmus test to see whether people would leave the game or not. i dont know, I find that stuff interesting. it was a terrible idea, but seeing their limpdick waffling is a turnoff to me

I'm glad they are doing this and actually listened to the fan base.

I'm now wondering what conversation threading is exactly, as it sounds to me like some sort of super-strict off-topic rule. Also, it looks like the post rating bug that's going around is going to be implemented, and while I'm not necessarily against it, I've never understood the point of it at all.
But at least Blizzard still has at least some intelligence to reverse horrible decisions.

My guess is that it places direct replies adjacent to the posts they relate to rather than at the bottom of the thread.
