It's odd... I was updating my PS3 with the last update to upload videos and photos to a remote site to share with my friends and it shut down right in the middle with no warning. So I assumed that it was just a power shortage, so I started it up again and no problem. I popped in my ATHF volume 2 to listen to while I built up my computer. It shut off again and had a flashing light red light. I ejected the disk then put it back in and the system ran fine for a good hour and a half. I finished what I was working on and turned off my PS3. An hour or so later I go to play some Legends of Wrestlemania and I go to eject my disk and it goes to start up, but the little lights to show a disk is in and the power is on start to flash and a yellow light shows up. Then the flashing red light which means sleep mode flashes and nothing.

I did everything including taking the Harddrive out, take the wires and unhook them and hook them back up, and finally let it sit and rest. Still doesn't work.

Now I've got a couple options, open the system and try to fix it on my own, send it in with $150 bucks to Sony and let them fix it, but in the process losing everything and not having the system for almsot 6-8 weeks or buy one the of PS3 Slims and start over with everything except my PSN account which I can recover... What does everyone here think I should do? And don't say buy a fucking X-Box

Yea, it kinda sucks, but the PS3 breakdowns are pretty rare.

Slayer, I would break it open and take a look if you know what you are doing, fuck sending it in.

If you can't fix it, the 250gb slim models are quite a deal at $349.

Sorry to hear about this dude, busted electronics suck universally.

I personally would research the Slim model and see if it's worth putting the extra dough into - check if it runs more efficient than the original PS3 and such. I'd say that if you can at least re-download all of your games or such, the Slim might be worth it in the long run.

As far as getting save data off of the hard drive...I don't know much about PS3s, but there has got to be some way to copy or move your save data onto a friend's hard drive or memory stick. Here's hoping you get everything back.

Nonetheless, that's their faulty product not mine. Hell, I hate Microsoft and XBox a lot but I at least gotta give them credit for not charging people to fix it.

I had problems with my PS2 in the past, luckily it was problems I could handle, but seeing as with each new generation of gaming, it's becoming more difficult to fix problems on your own.

And I mean $150? Does that include shipping the fucking thing to them? Christ Sony, you're so cheap to do that.

Hey guys,

I'm new to the boards, although I've been in the chat room a few times. I had a similar problem with my PS3 and had to send it in. If you have an original fat one, the will actually send you a refurbished 120 GB Slim for $119 (possibly plus shipping, I can't remember). Anyways, its better then paying $300 for a new one and mine has worked fine so far.

Anyways, yeah, I'd probably go for a new slim model, and the refurb sounds like a good deal if you don't mind it being a refurb.

Yeah, get yourself a system of the future with wi-fi and HD-DVD's. I'm pretty sure this blu-ray craze is gonna blow over. Statements like this are retarded and unnecessary. I looked around and it seems like I might have to go with getting a new slim. I'm gonna crack it open friday when I have the day off and it's not hot as hell and try to see if it's something that I can fix or at least get my ATHF dvd out. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Except X-Box lol... i'm just gonna say this, since the situation is more common for X-Box's then I can understand having a no charge for a refurbished policy. My PS3 fried after two days (don't buy used), and was already out of warranty (DON'T FUCKING BUY USED!). I should do the slim upgrade, but I haven't had the cash.
