Nowhere in the article does it say the TV was on. Just that she was sitting in a chair in front of it.

There were other articles that say the TV was on, and they also mention her being wrapped up in her bed.

I want to have a family, then one day, I'll just walk out on them for 10 years. Then one day when they're out, I'll sneak into the house and hide in the attic. When they come home, I'll start banging around. Then they'll find me and I'll be like "Ha ha! I've been up here this whole time!"
If they're anything like me, they'll find that hilarious.

reminds ofthis old sizzler commercial where the dad shows up 15 years later to his house, and the wife asks him where he was at and his response was "it was all you can eat shrimp"

Reminds me of the news story where some bum was living in these people's attic for years, and they caught him because someone in the house told a joke and then they heard laughter coming from the ceiling.
