She's still in critical condition. Sad, sad story.

I think we can all agree that elderly people can't drive for shit. The question is, what to do about it? With the baby boomers aging, this problem is going to get a lot worse in coming years.

Should families take the keys away from their elderly relatives? Then how do they get around? Public transportation isn't viable for everyone.

Should laws be passed that elderly drivers be tested for their ability to handle a car? One big problem with that legislation.....look who needs to pass it. 90% of politicians are senior citizens themselves. They'd never pass a bill that would invoke such restrictions on themselves.

These kind of stories infuriate me, but I really don't know what can be done about it.

Nah there isn't too much we can do really. The only real solution is harsher laws requiring them to be tested every year above a certain age, but like you said, that kind of law would never pass.

I had my first car totalled by an old lady who just plowed into me when I was stopped at an intersection. Luckily I wasn't hurt and it just reminds you that while driving to pay attention to everything around you at all times to account for bad drivers.

Looks like that girl will be needing the handicapped spot now. It is sad though. We need to establish some sort of elderly transit that could eliminate a lot of these problems. Hell, old people should use the bus anyways.

Like I needed a new reason to hate old people.

Simple, cut the old person's legs off and graft them to the victim.

Seriously, I'd rather have a pair of those sweet metal legs the amputees get.

Especially if you can mod them with springs and rollerskates like Inspector Gadget.

Once a person is over age 60 they should be required to pass a vision test every time they renew their license. At that time a simple reaction time test should be administered. Let doctors figure out the specifics, but just verify that the person is capable of reacting safely.

I just pictured a dude at the DMV jumping out and scaring the shit out of an old person to test their reaction time. Laughing

My grandfather is a trucking instructor in his 70s. He memorized the eye chart.

That's why you flip that shit upside down.
