Land of the Dead for X-box was also pretty bad. Since when in hell does it take 3-6 shots from a .357 to take down ONE zombie? What made me even more pissed was because the real game City Of Dead got canceled a year before this crap came out.

Mappyland is alright. Not great, but alright.
Anybody remember Lagoon? Awesome boss fight music, but shoddy ass game otherwise.

I'm stunned that this thread has made it this far and no one has mentioned Superman 64.

It's far too easy (and kinda cliche') to mention that or anything that's been mentioned numerous times on any top ten worst lists like ET/Custer's Revenge/Time-Killers, etc...

I'm going to also nominate Wizardry for NES. I have a lot of shit for NES, but this game has absolutely nothing going for it to me. It looks like a bunch of other RPGs except it tries to do this ugly 3D. I decided that I didn't need it anymore, so I'm getting rid of it. The first NES game I've gotten rid of in 10 years.

Speaking of bad RPGs, and I know I'll take a lot of shit for this, (probably be accused of trolling, whatever the fuck that means) but Dragon Warrior was probably the worst RPG I've ever played. Definitely the worst RPG I've ever finished. I'm sorry but that game was just really fucking generic and lame.

There is no NES version.
However, there wasn't even an instruction manual for this game. It just had a slip that said BINFORD TOOLS: Real Men don't need instructions.

Compared to what's out there, it is fairly bland. Compared to what was available at the time, it was a decent game if you didn't like PC-styled RPGs like Ultima or The Bard's Tale...or didn't have a decent PC to run those games.

It may be bad by today's standards and it's certainly not the best Dragon Warrior game out there but for it's time it was a decent game. Hard to call a game like that generic when there wasn't really a lot of other options.

Actually, even at the time it wasn't very good. I had played Final Fantasy, Destiny of an Emperor, and Ultima: Avatar before I'd played Dragon Warrior, and all those games were far better. Even for 1989-90 standards. However I never played any of the sequels and everyone says DWIII is so hot so maybe I'll give them a try someday.

Bad? I can't really say. I just almost lose interest in any rpg that requires me to press a button to bring up a menu where I have to choose between looking and talking (with the exception of Earthbound). It's just kind of a pain in the ass and a waste of time, especially when there's that one fast-walking NPC you're trying to talk to and you have to chase them down and open up the menu in time.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

eh, most RPG's have a button that automatically talks to the NPC w/out the need for bringing up the menu.

DW came out in 86 and the rest came out afterwards with the exception of Ultima (80), so I can't say that's a fair standard to hold it to, considering it was the proto JRPG, but that's like, your opinion man.

I know it's been mentioned, but... E.T. for the Atari. God, that game gave me AIDS just thinking about it.

Really I thought it came out in '89, but maybe that's just the American version I'm thinking of. Of course you know how most RPGs are out in Japan a good couple of years before we see them here.

Well, I guess it depends on your interpretation of what a video game is, but if you lax it up a bit I say this.
9,999 in 1 Calculator Games is exactly what you'd expect, 9,999 tetris knockoffs. However, now it has the added fun of playing a crappy version of The Interlude from Carmen when you fail.
If you want a more legitimate answer, I say Dark Castle, particularly the CD-i version. I might get some argument on this one's crapitude level, but hear me out. The playable character is the most inept gaming hero ever. He trips on everything, disorients himself by touching walls and throws rocks by sieg hieling. I was never a fan of any versions of the game, but the even further crappy controls of the CD-i version push it over the edge.
