It doesn't actually narrow the playing field. But it narrows the perceived playing field. If two attractive guys get married, those guys weren't competing against you anyway. But seeing those two attractive guys get married makes single women slightly depressed and slightly desperate.

Bans against interracial marriage were a product of a time when interracial bathrooms, classrooms, and lunch counters also weren't allowed. It was a product of pure racism, and not a product of any sort of argument over what constitutes marriage. Black people were allowed to get married. White people were allow to get married. There was no "white marriage" or "black marriage", there was a singular institution of marriage.
That's not to say that there's not a lot of hatred and homophobia in the anti-gay marriage movement. There is. But the argument against gay marriage is more complex than the argument against interracial marriage, because it's based on longstanding historical and spiritual contexts. To many, marriage is intended to be a longterm monogamous commitment to our sole biological purpose: creating and raising children.
The problem is that there are two separate but inseparable institutions here. There's marriage, the religious ceremony and spiritual commitment, and then there's marriage, as recognized by the American government.
Actuallly, I may have just solved the problem: the government shouldn't recognize marriage at all. Let marriage be a solely religious institution and the government can come up with its own thing, with a new name, where any two citizens can be joined into a partnership and enjoy all the benefits that people were previously conferred by marriage. That way, religious people get to keep their sacred institution and everyone else gets what they want.

Well if marriage has always been about semantics I would see what you mean but in the past marriage has been used in business arrangements.
As far as biology is concerned there are tons of people who can't have children, so should they be forbidden to marry aswell?

No, but they should be FORCED to have children. Key example: Christoper Walken. Christopher Walken has been married forever, but has no children. What the fuck? Doesn't he understand that he fucking OWES it to us to have children? He's not going to be around forever, so it's high time he creates a young, marginally talented version of himself to carry on his legacy.

Nice.
I personally don't care either way. My life changes in no significant way if it's legal or if it isn't. But that there's nothing I hate more than a circle jerk, so I'm going to stir the pot.

I want to have kids, but I don't want to raise them. I'll just send a monthly check. Once they're old enough to play Tekken, I'll attempt to re-enter their lives. And they better not play sports. I'm not going to any fucking sports matches. If I do, I'll just play Pokemon the whole time.
