Christian right attacks President Obama for recognizing gay dads on Father's Day

President Barack Obama is under attack by the Christian right for recognizing gay dads in his Father's Day address.

Obama's simple Father's Day message is as positive and family friendly as one might imagine. It is hard to believe anyone taking issue with such a universal theme as fatherhood.

However, apparently one line in President Obama's Father's Day speech has caused a firestorm in the Christian fundamentalist community:

“Nurturing families come in many forms, and children may be raised by a father and mother, a single father, two fathers, a step father, a grandfather, or caring guardian.”

Was Obama wrong to mention gay dads in his Father's Day address?

Couldn't he also mean a father and a step-father? Either way it is pretty fucked up to get on his case about wishing people well.

NPR was getting on Obama's shit for calling the company British Petroleum (the full name, which they apparently haven't used in years), instead of BP; some naysayers were saying that he was implicating anti-British sentiment. And then, they proceeded to note the number of British soldiers dead in the "U.S. led invasion of Iraq." These bullshit-artists are all so transparent...they're just spoons looking to stir the pot.

I didn't really pay much attention to this thread cause father's day isn't my thing, but someone made a good point early on: happy (late) father's day to all the daddies on the forum! Very Happy

Well, whatever it's called, I think I had it in the mid-90s.

Sounds like the only prescription... is more.... yeah, you know.

And my second spawn is on the way. Wifey is officially six weeks along. My first is trodding along quickly to his fourth birthday.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

Congrats guys! I couldn't imagine having a second. My 4 year old is already way too much for me to handle. No way would I start all over again with another baby!

The wife and I already decided we're not going to breed, so thanks for handling that whole perpetuation of the species thing for us dudes! I know it's a little late, but at least I'll always know she isn't.

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.
