Out of any of the Final Fantasy games, who was the toughest boss? Not in terms of their character, but in actual skill to beat them. Doesn't have to be a "Final Boss" Especially since a lot of them sucked ass anyway.
I had a fucking horrible time trying to beat Emerald/Ruby Weapons. I hate those fuckers will all my heart.

Syd Lexia from FF X-2 Many. That son of a bitch eats Knights of the Round for breakfast with hot sauce.

Not counting optional challenge bosses, Zeromus is probably the hardest one I've faced, though Necron can be completely unfair. I hear the bosses in FFV are a bitch and a third, though.

I hated Zeromus and his Big Bang. I also always have trouble with those fucking Magus Sisters.

Jenova in The City of Ancients and on your first trip to the crater. Hardest bosses ever.

I'd say that Zodiac demon from FF Tactics that you have fight with just Ramza.

To be honest, beating Zeromus WITHOUT the Crystal Sword. Takes fucking forever.

I haven't played past IX but so far I'd say Shinryu from V. It was Omega till I figured out a way to beat him rather easily. Kind of the same story with Emerald and Ruby weapon from VII. Once you figure out the 'trick' to them they're rather easy. I never beat Omega from VIII, but I only tried once. I'll bet given some time I could figure that one out too. Ultimecia isn't exactly hard, but she takes fucking forever. The only way you'll 'lose' is if you run out of patience.

Wiegraf/Velius in FF Tactics. Fighting Wiegraf solo is a pain in the ass, only to be followed up by a Lucavi monster and 3-4 Ultima Demons. Gah, that one's a skill tester alright.

There's a trick to every boss, and once you know it, none of them are particularly hard. Some of them are still tedious though.
That aside, gonna second Omega and Shinryuu. Never have had my ass kicked so quickly as by those bastards in FF5.

See, I always thought that Wiegraf/Velius was pretty easy, but then, I was usually at least level 50 at the time. Considering I'd unequip the swords on my party during the very first fight and just punch the other bad guys to death, though, I guess that helps. I'd usually end up level five or six with all of them after one fight.

That's why I love 5. It's never too easy. 6 may be an overall better game in most everyone's opinion, but 5 is still harder. I may be the only motherfucker on this site that favors 5.
Omega can actually go down rather easily with a combination of the Bolt3 sorcerer ability and Sshot from mastering the hunter job. It also can't hurt to master the Ninja job so each member can equip 2 swords.

When I saw this thread, I was tempted for a second to be an ass and say "The four horsemen at the beginning of Final Fantasy II."
I am such a dork.

That boss really pissed me off.. he is impossible unless you know he's coming up.
I want to say on my first time through i had to restart because of him.. and also the boss tha tdoes all the debuffs, the priest guy... if you're not ready to handle them with items that make your team immune to his stuff he can be very annoying.
I beat FF Tactics going the most efficient route toward the end with no grinding. I get bored grindining, and that's how i prefer to play games. So I didn't avoid battles, but i didnt' use them to farm exp. He wasn't too bad if you knew he was coming up. Just get Auto-Poton, and use the speed boost on yourself every turn, until you like 4 times for every 1 time he gets to go, and you just rape him.
I did try to beat Omega at a very low level in FF 5, i think.. and i couldn't do it. I'd have everyone hasted on my team, and things be going ok but i could not out heal his damage even if all i did was focus on keeping alive. I needed to level. I can't remember what level I was.
I recall the second to last boss in FF 10 was annoying the Brahman's Final Aeon... I was low level as usual.. But once I found out that poison worked on him, and Auron could do power break to weaken his damage. Then I could poison him, and do damage while i healed myself.. and then have Auron to make his attacks weak, and once they were weak enough i coudl take a breather from healing and go on teh offesnive with minimum healing. I beat him on my 5th try, and one or two shotted all the other encounters.
That reminds me in FF tactics also the knight that betrays you.. you have to fight him one on one for awhile with ramza before you can open the gate for you team... he posed some difficulty. I think just used TP and opened the gate for my team or something...

I'm no FF-veteran, and I've only completed games from VII to XII. One boss that comes into mind is Beatrix (FFIX) you fight in Burmecia. Had to grind pretty hard for that one. But I guess this is nothing special, if you look into the older FF's.

Draclau/Queklain. Most of his debuffs are pretty tame. Death sentence was annoying, but manageable. Velius, however, is a total pain. Lightning Stab while he's a Holy Knight was doing 250 dmg to me and if I didn't break his sword on my first attack, I'd be dead. Poo-tastic. Once he transforms, shit gets bad quickly, especially if he fires off a Cyclops.

That's Gafgarion. I either broke or stole his sword in both encounters.

Yes, well it kind of depended on your level and what characters you had in your party but I don't remember ever struggling with him.
