Frankly, up to you.

From what I recall, the dub for it was pretty good overall (unless they released a new dub?), so it's safe to say you'd be ok with either one.

Yup, the 1990 dub is acceptable as I remember it, with a few goofs here and there; the 2001 one is laughable at best, specially as I expected Kaneda to release his Bankai.

If you're going to watch the dub, try the 1990; if you can't find it, it's ok.

To be truly honest, I'm not a big fan of dubs, as they tend to ruin the show for me; however, there are a couple of exceptions here and there.

For example, I avoid any Spanish dubs done by Spain like the plague because they choose the worst voice actors for the characters. Probably the worst offender that I can come up with is that they gave Ruki of Digimon Tamers (a pre-teen girl) the voice of a 30 year old chain smoking woman. They usually end up being hilariously bad:



Latin American dubbing on the other hand is near perfect at most. Best example that I can think of is the Spanish dubbing of Thundercats (which I grew up with); by the time I saw the English version, I wondered what the fuck happened:



(Check Munra's voice in particular).

It's like comparing Cockney with regular English to be precise.

Anyway, I tend to lean to Sub over Dub, but in this case, I approve of (one) of Akira's dubs.
