Really long CNN link

CNN.com wrote:
After five months of negotiations, ten emergency budget extensions and a threat of a government shutdown, New York lawmakers were still not close to approving a new budget, Gov. David Paterson's office said Friday.

Over the past 30 years, the New York state budget has been approved on time just four times, but a shutdown would be unprecedented, and its ramifications are unclear.

All I can say is fuck New York.

And as always, it's the people that're going to suffer. The whole notion of Republicans and Democrats doesn't even make sense to me anymore, because they're all a bunch of buck-passing fuckers; I haven't been able to see the difference since Dubya. Now, I've always disliked New York anyway, but this is just icing on the hate cake.

Well, the governor is blind after all. It must be hard for him to read the budget sheet. This Is A Joke

The school year will finish. So the only big thing will be that public transportation will shutdown. Which in NYC, is a really, really big thing.

I haven't been to New York since I went in 97 on family vacation so I have no idea what it's like now, but back then you had to know where the fuck you were going and how you were going to get there. You remember how the hallways were in high school during a change of periods? It's like that but a bazillion times more people and outside on the sidewalk. Fucking busy place man. Surprised

The NYS government has been gradually becoming for fucked for a while. Last year, there was a coup involving two of the most corrupt bastards in the NYS government switched parties and locked the senate building in Albany:

CBSnews.com wrote:
New York State Senate Republicans on Monday replaced Malcolm Smith as Majority Leader after two dissident Democrats switched sides, giving the GOP control, CBS 2 has learned.

The flip of senators Pedro Espada Jr. of the Bronx and Hiram Monserrate of Queens gives Republicans a 32-30 edge in the chamber.

Call it a coup, call it a devious plan to change leadership, but at the end of the day Democrats are out of power in the New York State Senate and Republicans were.

It's a story with some really wild twists and turns.

Who could forget Espada and his run-ins with CBS 2 after we discovered he doesn't even live in his Bronx district, and wore an orange ski hat when he was confronted about it in front of his real home in Mamaroneck?

Turns out the real joke is on Espada's Democrat colleagues in the Senate after he and Monserrate, who has been indicted for attacking his girlfriend, sold out Senate Democrats and voted with the Republicans to make Rockville Sen. Dean Skelos the new majority leader.

Espada was elected President pro tempore of the Senate, which means that if something happens to Gov. Davis Paterson, he steps in.

And, in case you're wondering, attacking his girlfriend more specifically means:

Hiram Monserrate's Wiki wrote:
Monserrate was arrested on December 19, 2008 and accused of slashing Karla Giraldo in the face with a broken drinking glass during an argument in his Jackson Heights apartment.[27] He was arraigned the same day and pleaded not guilty to the charges of second-degree assault, a felony that carried a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. If Monserrate were convicted of the felony charges, he would have been automatically expelled from the Senate.

His companion initially made statements to hospital staff and the police which led to his arrest. She later changed her account to match that of Monserrate namely that the cuts on her face near her left eye from a broken glass were an accident and she is no longer cooperating with the investigation. Sources have discussed with the media evidence including video surveillance that support the charges of assault and the attempt to cover it up. On February 27, 2009, the order of protection which prevents Monserrate from having contact with Giraldo was extended over the objections of Monserrate's attorney.

The government seems to be so full of corruption and bullshit it's sickening. I know most governments probably have a level of corruption, but NY seems to have surpassed the norm. People flipping parties for money and throwing coups, locking the Senate, slashing girlfriends faces, being busted on partaking in prostitution by one's own investigation methods... I think they all need to be wiped out and replaced.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

I remember my only trip to NY, the people there were moderately friendly except in traffic, plus take into effect the power outage that happened, that really fucking sucked. Not a way to leave an impression.

From what I remember, the people were friendly enough, but I don't think I've ever been asked for change as much in my entire life as I was in five minutes standing outside smoking at the port authority bus station.
