The MK characters have a higher level of recognition than most other fighters out there. More people can tell you who Scorpion or Sub-Zero are than can name a character from Killer Instinct, Guilty Gear, KoF, or even Tekken. Perhaps the only fighting series whose characters are more well-known are the Street Fighter ones.

Does it piss anyone else here off that Goro never had a fatality in the original MK? Let alone Kintaro and Shao Khan not having Fatalities...

There is an unused Shang Tsung fatality coded into the MK arcade game. In it, he draws his sword and impales you.

I'm a sucker for the original arcade MK I. MK II was good too, but after that it seemed to dissolve into predetermined combos and Kombat Kodes. Some people dig that sorta thing, though. I lack in teh skillz department though.

I can name one fighting game whose characters are even more easily recognized by most of the free world: "TMNT: Tournament Fighters", baby!

I purpose a video experiment to prove this. I'll get two people to stand on street corners and have them try to get random people to identify these characters. Will this prove or disprove the theory? Better yet, will this video really get made?

Only character from Killer Instinct that I can remember was Fulgore.

I had KI for Game Boy, and I used to play it a whole lot. But that's back in '96.

Nintendo tried a Killer Instinct card game before they ever heard of Pokemon.

I got KI for Christmas the year it came out. I also got a KI strategy guide for resubscribing to NP. I loved it. Unfortunately, my idiotic brother spilled milk on the guide and ruined most of it. I almost cried over it. I probably would have if it wouldn't have been so cliche.

I hope it wasn't a Prima guide. Prima fucking sucks. I remember I bought the strategy guide for Goldeneye because I thought it would help me get the last couple cheats that I needed. Nope. The giide offered absolutely no useful information and you would have to REALLY suck at the game to glean any wisdom from it. One particularly idiotic line that always got to me was this:
"Like most enemies in the game, Xenia has a weak spot. Aim for her head."

They still do. I have a guide for Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls and Super Mario 3 for GBA sitting in my closet.
