I think Sideway got it right... the atmosphere was really engrossing... the detailed backgrounds and music all fit together so well. I also had a blast doing all the shit at the Golden Saucer. Raising Chocobos on the other hand....
Also, One Winged Angel blew my pubescent mind.. A video game with a choir.. was the most epic thing I had ever heard.

He'll always show up again to kick clouds ass to the moon (or getting his ass kicked to the moon). Second, you can not run away. His sword is just too long, plus, he can fly! And if everything fails, theres still the Super Nova Spell to erase every atom of yours. Third, the Song. One Winged Angel is the best Boss theme EVER. You can't beat it, you just can't do that because its the ultimate Boss Theme. If you would enhance that song it would be kitsch. Progress is determined to fail, that makes the Sepiroth Theme ultimate. Fourth, his dark personality. The evil inside of him is always subtle and only used to punctuate his Person wich makes im never noncredible, because ultimately his just an insane freak who wants to his mommy. |
Actually if you spend enough time 'grinding' and getting every item in the game, Sephiroth is actually a cake walk to beat. If you spend time raising chocobos, getting the master summon materia, knights of the round, etc. Then Sephiroth isn't really a challenge. I beat him the first time without ANY of that. Besides, Emerald weapon and Ruby weapon were way harder than Sephiroth. But even those guys were doable when you figure them out. What makes the game fun is actually the exploring, and trying to find every item in the game. Also fuckin around at the gold saucer. So no, Sephiroth is not that much of a badass.

If you go this way, Kefka is an absolutely pathetic final boss, much easier than the third phase or even the second phase of whatever you're fighting before him.
The only thing he has that's remotely threatening is Ultima, but he only casts it when he's almost dead, so most of the time he'll die before he can even use it.

Most of the newer FF games have weak last bosses if you spend any sort of effort on leveling or getting the good equipment.

isnt that what you're supposed to do in an RPG, though?

Thats why I like FF XIII, even though I had the ultimate weapons and all my characters maxed out, I was never safe against some of the tougher bosses. Also the cap until you beat the game definitely made it much more challenging.

No, he isn't.
-what an starting argument. impressiv....

Yes, let's.

First, he can not die. In every game (or movie) were sephiroth gets killed, his death isn't permanent. He'll always show up again to kick clouds ass to the moon (or getting his ass kicked to the moon).
So can Dr. Wily, Big Boss and a fuckton of other villains. Nothing impressive.
-You cant compare that. A villain who constantly appears in the Game series, even if he practically died is different from a guy who simply is not able to die wich applies to sephiroth.
Quote:
Second, you can not run away. His sword is just too long, plus, he can fly! And if everything fails, theres still the Super Nova Spell to erase every atom of yours.
Oh, so he's a godmoder. We've seen plenty of enemies you can't run away from (some of them could fly also. And they had swords, too).
- But he is THE godmoder because he owns the most destructive spell in gaming history wich is Super nova. There is no other Spell who wipes out the whole solar system.

Third, the Song. One Winged Angel is the best Boss theme EVER. You can't beat it, you just can't do that because its the ultimate Boss Theme. If you would enhance that song it would be kitsch.
"This song is the best song ever because it's the best song ever."
Ok, ok. Lets start again. One Winged Angel as theme is a masterpiece for several reasons. First: its epic. really epic. Second: it fits Sephiroths personality so well. Third: i never heard an Boss theme (and believe me, i love Game Soundtracks) wich surpassed that song. It is outstanding and there is no doubt about that.
Quote:
Progress is determined to fail, that makes the Sepiroth Theme ultimate.
Um, what? You outnonsenced me.
-haha, gotcha!

Fourth, his dark personality. The evil inside of him is always subtle and only used to punctuate his Person wich makes im never noncredible, because ultimately his just an insane freak who wants to his mommy.
Oh wow, like we haven't seen that before *extremely long cough*Ed Gein along with Norman Bates, Jason Voorhees and those are just the mommy's boys - I won't challenge his subtle evil, because he isn't subtle. His evil is oh-so-obvious, like Dracula's, the Joker's and Santa Claus'.*end extremely long cough*
-I partially agree. Somehow he is the Boogieman but he also got that complex serial killer thing going on. What i mean is, his actions are comprehensible, that makes him unique as villain. He is more an Human Being, then just an Evil Being like Dracula or any of those folks.
defended huh? tz, how hastly.

Oh wow, you're up for some more ass whupin'? Well, let me counterpoint your very shittily edited post.
First of all, you stated that Sephiroth was the greatest villain, while I stated he wasn't. This is not an argument, you idiot. This is an OPINION. Which is what you state at the start of a discussion.
Secondly, oh wow, Sephiroth is not able to die? Like we haven't seen that before! Your limited knowledge of good fiction again makes you my bitch. The Nameless One from Planescape: Torment, for one. And yes, you can compare that.
Third, he would be THE godmoder if he was the archetype of evil, not just a poorly-constructed amalgamation of everything starting from King Oedipus. And then there's your argument about Super Nova. Again, fiction had way more powerful weapons / convenient plot machines way before Final Fantasy VII. It's not as original as you claim it to be and by refusing to accept that fact makes you look like an idiot.
Fourth, "it's epic?" "It fits Sephiroth's personality so well?" "I have never heard a boss theme that surpassed that theme?" Okay, one by one. You obviously don't know what epic means. It's not an adjective you stick to everything. It should mean stuff that concerns itself with very serious matter, detailing heroic deeds and events relevant to a nation or a culture. Your track, on the other hand, is a phrase chanted over and over again. And boy, how lucky are we to have someone like you who can judge stuff in concrete terms like "it fits Sephiroth's personality so well." You obviously don't know what you're talking about.
Then, there's the "I have never heard a boss theme that surpassed it" argument. Just because you have a very limited knowledge of music doesn't mean there are no better themes than One Winged Angel.
And "haha, gotcha!" isn't really the proper answer to a comment about your very poorly written sentence. In fact, notice that even with your apalling grammar I only commented on that one sentence. That means very much.
Plus, "his actions are comprehensible?" "Complex serial killer thing going on?" If it was complex, then it would be incomprehensible. That's what complex means. And the whole "we made him from Jenova cells" thing really screams human to me. Or the fact that he wants to become a god. We've had that too, you know.

You're absolutely right. Kefka was a pathetically easy final boss. However, similar to FFVII, what made FFVI so fun was the same kind of thing. Mostly grinding, building up your characters, and trying to find every item in the game. Also the coliseum fights were cool (I just wish you had control over your selected fighter). But what made FFVI better than FFVII, at least in my opinion, were simply the characters. They were more plentiful and far better developed. None of the FFVII guys were as cool as Shadow.
As a final boss however, I'll have to go with Neoxdeth from V. He was more of a monstrosity and far more badass than Kefka and Sephiroth combined.

FF7 was kind of a timepiece event. You really had to have been around to get it. The problem was that people didn't get it, and blew it up for the wrong reasons. If you look at the plot, it was kind of all over the place, but the characters were what really made it shine. For once, there were doubts about the main character, and love storylines were much more developed in previous rpg's. The art was gorgeous, and the difficulty in the battles was well-balanced. It was just such an event that people really didn't know what to make of it, and it spawned a lot of pale imitators.

Nope, I won't. He made an errorless statement this time. Kind of obvious, but still, there's nothing wrong with it. I actually agree (as would anyone with any common sense) with him.
There's hope for you yet, kid.

Holy shit, I missed the forums for a couple of days and shit got REAL up in here.
So this brings up a question. Not in terms of personality, or backgrounds, or feats, but in terms of actual skill as a gamer to beat, Who was the toughest Final Fantasy Boss?
I will be starting a new Thread for this.

FF7 is highly revered by most because a monkey can trump it. A lot of monkeys like straight-foward eye candy. The manditory difficulty in Seven was a joke after playing the previous FF titles. A very good and engrossing game it is, but stop whacking off to Sepheroth. Now Tifa... Anywho, FF7 is to the Phantom Menace as FF6(3 as I knew it) is to the Empire Strikes Back, kiddos.
