So the FTP program I used just suddenly stopped working.

I am getting the following error message when attempting to connect to my FTP:

Error receiving response from FTP server.
Windows socket error 10038
Socket operation on non-socket.

What in the hell does this mean?

I am assuming you are running Windows XP.

Quick fun way to do it, just delete your network connection and then research for hardware. It should create and bind a new network device and default all of the fucked up settings.

If it doesn't, then you can start to look into the WinSock fix:

P.S. Upgrade to Windows 7 and save yourself some headaches.

I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on a new OS! What a waste of money.

I have never bought an OS, and I never will. I'll get a new OS when I get a new computer.

Also, that worked. Thank you!

Glad it worked.

As for sticking with XP, your stubbornness will only cause your own sustained pain and suffering.

I need to get a new computer soon anyway. I was originally going to get one as soon as I got my tax return, but I haven't done so.

I actually run R2 as my work OS. By default a lot of services are off that make Windows 7 look and act like a desktop OS. If you understand it, then you can easily turn them back on.

For those in the IT world, no problem. For those outside, have fun trying to figure out themes which require a feature install as well as a manual service modification to Automatic. Additionally search indexing is off by default and Internet Explorer is in protective mode.

I wouldn't recommend R2 unless you actually work on computers as a job and benefit from the additional services.

What about those who don't use Aero or any themes other than the plain default?

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

Great find! I still maintain that this requires a bit more work than a standard computer user is comfortable with. For those who are up for the challenge though, it is an experience.

Excel, I was listing a few of the most troubling points, however the article that Ermac posted is a great resource to show more of the features that need to be altered.
