I've been playing Mario Kart 64 on the VC recently... I had forgotten how much fun it was. I know there's already the multiplayer thread, but I decided MK64 is good enough to warrant it's own thread. What are everyone thoughts on the game? Here are some of mine:

Favorite driver: Toad. Most people I know consider Wario to be the best driver in the game, but I've always liked Toad. He's gotten good acceleration, he handles well, and his light weight allows you to cut corners, especially if you have some mushrooms.

Favorite item: The star. It's offensive, defensive, and it gives you a speed bonus. What more could you want?

Favorite track: Most of them are pretty fun, but I'm partial to Moo Moo Farm.

Least favorite track: Rainbow Road. It's long, monotonous, and stupid.

Favorite dick thing to do: Using the lightning bolt right before someone is about to attempt the jump in Wario Stadium.

Thing that pisses me off the most: getting knocked off the track on Choco Mountain or Banshee Boardwalk by a well-placed turtle shell.

2. Glowing Mushroom.

3. I liked Toad's Turnpike.

4. Choco Mountain 'cause I'm the worst in that.

5. Same as Syd.

6. Basically falling and losing my position.

I haven't played it in a few years, so forgive me if I have any terms wrong.

Favorite driver: Yoshi. Mainly, I like his acceleration as I like to get sloppy when driving sometimes.

Favorite item: Green Shells. They're not the best weapon, but it's really satisfying when you knock somebody long range with one.

Favorite track: Bowser's Castle

Least favorite track: Toad's Turnpike in Reverse Mode.

Favorite dick thing to do: Pass people and drop a banana right in front of them.

Thing that pisses me off the most: Being hit with lightning before a sharp turn that has an open cliff ahead.

1. Favorite Driver: Mario. Mario is the man.

2. Favorite Item: Lighting bolt. Definitely.

3. Favorite Track: This is a tough one. I really liked Wario Stadium a lot. I also loved Toad's Turnpike in mirror mode because it was so fucking insane.

4. Least Favorite Track: Koopa Troopa Beach.

And to add a little more, for Battle Mode:
Favorite Track: The Skyscraper one.

5. Favorite Dick Thing To Do: Same as Syd and Bomberman.

6. Thing that pisses me off the most: Being hit with a lightning bolt right before the big jump at Royal Raceway.

I absolutely love Battle Mode. I could spend hours playing against people in it. It's crazy fun, and hell, even when you lose, you still get a chance to piss someone off by running into them as a bomb.

maybe it's just me, but I always hold turtle shells or banannas behind me (by holdign the trigger) to guard against attacks.

F zero X was more fun to me, personally.

Why wasn't Skyscraper in Mario Kart DS!?

I would've loved to see that level in Mario Kart DS's Battle Mode.

Rainbow Road on Mario Kart is so long because it's meant to be an F-Zero track. On F-Zero X, the track's only midsized.

that was actually a very fun track in F zero. if it's the one I'm thinking of, I used to pick the fastest car I could and set my accelleration/top speed ratio all the way over to top speed and jsut go flying.

I got it on the VC myself, hadn't played it in years.

Favorite driver: Luigi by default, for he is God. However, I have way more success with Bowser. Like most religions, Lugism allows me to be hypocritical.

Favorite item: Three red shells. Frustrating when they hit a wall and fail, the protection of the three red shells plus the homing attack makes for the best defense/offense item around.

Favorite track: Jungle Parkway.

Least favorite track: Yoshi Valley.

Favorite dick thing to do: Get right in front of someone and drop a 'nana.

Thing that pisses me off the most: The shit Donkey Kong and Princess Peach say when they pass you, the dirty fucks. Oh, and the fact that the races are fixed in Grand Prix, meaning the same two people will always be contendership with you for first place and will invariably end up getting the second and third positions (or first if you cocked up).

As the race speed/difficulty increases, there is a greater chance that one of the two drivers in contendership with you will get fucked over by a lesser driver and end up finishing in 4th or so. It happens the most on 150cc, but it saved my ass in the 100cc Star Cup.

Thing that pisses me off the most: Missing the jump in Wario Stadium and then getting squished by someone who was lagging behind.

Mario Kart 64 is the best Mario Kart game there was I think. Me and my friends still play that on multi-player all the time, we prefer it much more than Doube Dash!! We were never able to get into that for some reason. This is my favorite multi-player game of all time, hands down. Anyway...

Favorite Driver: Wario. I always prefered the heavier racers, and he is the lightest of them so I can still nail the smaller racers making them spin out. I just like Wario anyway. I used to choose Donkey Kong when I first started, but once I moved to Wario I have began winning much more.

Favorite Item: Star at almost any level. So many levels you can cut off big chunks of the race with that beast by cutting through the dirt. (Kalmari Desert) The Lightning is only better at Wario Statium, Royal Raceway and maybe DK Jungle.

Favorite Track: I like any of the ones in Mushroom Cup the most, but probably Koopa Troopa beach if I had to pick.

Favorite Dick Thing To Do: Saving the lightning until the 3rd lap right before the big jumps at Wario Stadium, Royal Raceway or DK Jungle. Just sucks when you save it all race and the ass hole your racing against gets a ghost. I also like it when I have a red shell or a star and slaming on my breaks when my friend is right behind me just to hit them with it.

Thing That Pisses Me Off The Most: When I get lightning offed the jump, or my friend gets a ghost when I am saving the lightning. It almost guarentees a loss when you get lightning off a jump. I also hate hitting the fake boxes, just because I feel like an idiot after.

The DS version is a damn fine game, also.

Favorite dick thing to do: Wait for somebody with a heavier cart to attempt to ram you, and then activate a star right before they make contact.

Favorite driver: Peach. It's great passing your friends and it making the stupid voice sample, thus adding to their frustration.

Favorite item: Blue shell, it' samazing.

Favorite track: Koopa Beach.

Least favorite track: Toad's turnpike.

Favorite dick thing to do: Passing people with peach or donkey kong.

Thing that pisses me off the most: Donkey Kong.

I also enjoy the arcade version, and often play as blinky (the pac man ghost)

I never owned an N64, so my experiences with this game were brief but entertaining. I was in a Blockbuster video on the level with the other cars and stuff, playing as Luigi. I kept running into the back of the big yellow bus, and doing that tumbling animation, while going, "Yeah, awesome, I'm winning!" I'd just keep accelerating into the back of the bus over and over. There was a little kid watching me and he was getting SERIOUSLY distraught over this. The kid was going, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, THAT'S NOT HOW YOU WIN! NOOOOOOO!" The kid was literally about to cry from me ramming Luigi into the back of a bus while thinking I was winning.

Favorite driver: Toad or Wario depending on the level, usually Toad.
Favorite item: The lightning bolt. It's hardly fair the amount of ground you can gain with this thing
Favorite track: The Yoshi one where you can't see who's winning
Least favorite track: The ice ones
Favorite dick thing to do: Knocking someone off the top of rainbow road and making them spend fucking eternity falling.
Thing that pisses me off the most: When I can see a person right in front of me but my red shell decides to fly sideways into a wall anyway

Favorite driver: Bowser. big,handles well,and will fuck anybody over behind him at the starting line.

Favorite item: Golden Mushroom. tap that mother fucker like there is no tomorrow.

Favorite track: Rainbow road. extremely fun,however long it may be.

Least favorite track: The ice one. i fucking HATE those penguins!

Favorite dick thing to do: holding brake while in first or second poll position at the start of a race (with bowser,of course)

Thing that pisses me off the most: When peach beats me.
