Final Fantasy II/IV's Boss fight against the four fiends. I get so fucking pissed every time I fight them, or the fucking Magus Sisters. Fuck those whores right in their ear pussies.

Yeah get a turbo controller and keep killing those flying skull things in the castles. They may seem unkillable but if you keep at it you get 50 xp for each one.

yup. easy to kill if you have the downward stab. just jump on them and after a while they die.

Yeah, that's a game killer. I remember you complaining about it last year, and I did some research; no solution to it exists as of now. So you got fucked by the bear (or twilight beast) on that one.

Pretty much, I'd like to see someone else try this only to prove me right, I'm not the kind of person to call someone out on it, but it's a major glitch (not as big as the other two, but still annoying). I hate that Loach though, I mean I have less difficulty going through the Cave of Ordeals without getting hit once than the Loach.

I need to make a motivational poster about it now.

Oh and while not really hard, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is frustrating to the point where I can only play in very small intervals.

You know, I noticed that Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn't hold my attention as well. It didn't have as much of an impact as the first... and none of the levels on EITHER SMG are very memorable (or at least as memorable as they were in Sunshine and 64).

Agreed Drew. One thing I hate is there is just WAY too many timed challenges. And I know that a lot of the earliest games had a time limit, but they didn't force you to be RUSHED. That is the difference between now and then, the only reason a lot of the older games had timers was to keep you moving and to keep you away from just racking up points, timers nowadays are used to challenge you to be on your toes the entire time, and it's not fun. I just made an attempt at SMG2 where you have to break 10,000 points by jumping on these things heads and getting combos and such, while not impossible (I literally got 9900 once, because some fucker hit me at the last second) it pisses me off because it rushes me. That's about a 3rd of this game; rush, rush, rush...hurry hurry...the time clock is ticking. I'm about 2 seconds away from getting rid of this game.

Yeah, the Game Chimp isn't my favorite character. But the reason they put most of the rushing challenge stages is to make it so you can't spend forever deciding how to execute a move on a certain level. There are a few parts that are legitimately hard to get past and require a good dose of thinking. The time challenges eliminate your ability to think before doing. Which is fun and challenging, but at the same time annoying, like you said.

Honestly I like the timed challenges, they aren't cheap, just challenging as the name imply.

Also, while I thought Sunshine was a great game, I did not care too much for the levels. They all sorta felt the same to me, 64 on the other hand did have some very memorable courses and was quite varied.

I disagree Andrew...and here's why;

You might feel that Sunshine's courses weren't memorable and varied but they were far more varied in that game than in any other. Why? Look at any fucking Mario game, you have a desert, icy, volcano, jungle, etc. etc. It's the same fucking shit. Hell, they even play the same, and it's not even limited to Mario, in almost every platformer that has ice means you slide on it, and if there's sand...you're going to fucking sink, it's pathetic that they can't come up with something new in regard to how these levels are built. Sunshine gave us a level that was a Theme Park, a level that was a Hotel, as well as a lot of interesting mini puzzles such as the vertical Pinball table. Also another reason why I prefer Sunshine is because I'm allowed to explore everything, the Galaxy games limit you a lot of the times because you're forced to warp or play on a linear field.

And I don't mind Timed Challenges, but SMG2 goes WAY overboard. Every galaxy has a Prankster Comet and at least 3/4 of those Pranksters are timed. The challenge and the uniqueness is lost when I'm spending 1/3 of the game trying to do something while rushing to do it. It's fucking stupid. This game at most, should have about 10 timed challenges, and that includes burning the trash and the Chimp challenges as well as those fucking Flutter races.

They should rename these 2 games Mario Pitfall, because that's how you'll die 95% of the time, mostly cheap.

Finding the last dragon in Haunted Towers on Spyro 1, if you played this game as much as I have you'll know what I'm talking about. Ten fucking years of not knowing what to do with the supercharge to find that asshole and some gems, I've only gotten it on my PSP version of the game, I have never gotten around to getting him on my physical copy. Special mention goes to the lone tree in Tree Tops that took a long time and lives to figure out how to supercharge your way there. Spyro 1 is literally the only game I know of that can be uber easy and be so impossible to figure out at times.

I figured out how to do these levels last, too. I felt really awesome when I finally managed to reach that stupid ledge I had found 3 months before.
One of the games I feel the most proud of beating without using a walkthrough.

The Platinum Relics in Crash Bandicoot 3. I've been stuck at 22 for quite some time now, and in some levels I'm like 30 seconds over the target time.

Level 18 in Crash Bandicoot 2. I did this level about a dozen time in a row because I always missed a fucking box.
After thoroughly searching through the stage, including the skull platform that's hard as fuck and that you need to get through twice,
I found out the missing box was hidden IN THE FUCKING BONUS STAGE, too high to be visible, and could be only be broken by jumping from another box.

In Touhou Labyrinth, barely clearing a difficult fight, only to earn a Game Over because everybody in your active party ran out of TP and fucking deserted Mad

I think I might have to go with Twilight Princess as the most frustrating game that I tried to make a serious attempt at, at least in recent memory. While nothing was truly terrible, the game just wears at you. There seems to be nothing in the game that isn't drawn out to take as much time as possible, and I just couldn't take anymore after about ten hours and not even restoring the third spirit thing.

Holy shit! Thank you! I knew there was a reason I never beat Warped. Those fucking relics! I remember beating it once only to realize I had to get an even higher relic, and just totally lost interest after that. Again, I hate being rushed.

I can't recall level 18 in Crash 2, but that was definately the best game of the original trilogy, and there were some hard stages...like riding that stupid polar bear.

Note that you only need Gold Relics to get 105% (though getting a Gold in level 13 is a fucking pain in the ass). Platinum Relics are just there for bragging rights or something.

Level 18 is the last snow level. The one with about 156 boxes. The skull platform part has those crushers that come down so fast you absolutely must slide.

And talking about Crash 2, remember the bees? It took me so long to fucking figure out how to get past them, I think I actually managed to get a Game Over the first time.

It's been so long since I played Crash, I don't remember the bees, but I do remember needing to break every box, which was a pain in some of those rushed levels where you run towards the screen as something chases you. I remember there was one level in either the last or second to last world that gave me so much trouble, that I almost gave up playing it. I don't think it was the jetpack level, but it could've been. Man, that's a game I need to go back to.

Really? I never found the four fiends to be that difficult. I just fight them the same way I fought them earlier in the game individually.

Ever noticed how many ledges/platforms/items in those games are just out of reach from a high jump, but can be reached if you follow up with a belly flop?
This makes one of the levels in Crash 2 completely useless as the Red Gem can be gotten directly in level 2, and Dingodile can be beaten before he fires a single shot.

Haha yup! I remember getting the red gem by doing a belly flop in the second part of the second level. The thing that always pissed me off was when I would collect the fruit near an enemy, I would spin to kill them but it would also fling all the fruit away. Sad
